Just In: Atiku Hosts Peter Obi In Adamawa As 2027 Permutation Gathers Momentum

Former vice president and Presidential candidate of the people’s democratic Party in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar on Saturday hosted Peter Obi, labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, in his Adamawa residence.

His visit follows Obi’s earlier meetings in May with other prominent figures from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), including former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki, at their homes in Abuja.

These meetings were notable as they marked Obi’s first encounters with his former political allies after his defection from the PDP to the Labour Party (LP) in May 2022.

During those discussions, Obi’s campaign spokesperson, Yunusa Tanko, revealed that the conversations revolved around strategies to reclaim Nigeria’s political direction, particularly from the control of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Native Doctor Shoots Self While Testing ‘Bulletproof’ Charm, Hospitalized

The Nigeria Police Force in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has said a native doctor, Ismail Usman, in Kuchibuyi Village, Kubwa, shot himself and landed in hospital while testing a ‘bulletproof’ charm.

The police said on Saturday that the incident occurred on Friday, adding that the herbalist was quickly transported to the Kubwa General Hospital for emergency treatment and later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for further care.

SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, noted that Usman would face charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.

The police said, “On November 23, 2024, an alarming incident unfolded in Kuchibuyi Village that drew the attention of the FCT Police Command. A distress call from Shandam Michael reported a shocking event involving Ismail Usman, a local herbalist known for his unconventional methods. In a misguided attempt to test the effectiveness of a self-made ‘bulletproof’ charm, Usman shot himself in the stomach with a shotgun.

“Unfortunately, the charm failed to protect him, resulting in life-threatening injuries. Officers from the Byazhin Division responded swiftly, arriving at the scene to find Usman in critical condition. He was quickly transported to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency treatment and later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for further care.

“In the aftermath, police conducted a thorough search of Usman’s home, recovering the homemade gun and an array of charms used in his reckless experiment. Edo Governor Approves Automatic Employment For First-Class Graduates

Edo State Governor, Mr. Monday Okpebholo, has announced a new initiative that offers automatic employment to first-class graduates from both Nigerian and foreign universities into the state’s Civil and Public Service.

The move is part of the governor’s plan to enhance the quality of the state’s workforce.

The state’s Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, revealed the decision in a statement on Friday, describing it as a component of the Graduate Development Programme, which aims to bring in highly skilled graduates to strengthen service delivery within the state.

“The governor’s approval is meant to motivate the workforce and inspire them to perform optimally.

The Graduate Development Programme will integrate first-class graduates and other highly qualified individuals into the civil service to enhance its overall performance,” Okungbowa said.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized the state’s commitment to attracting top talent, noting that the programme is not just about recruitment but also retaining skilled graduates, which he identified as a key challenge.

The initiative targets first-class graduates from Edo State, whether they graduated from local or international universities.

While the scheme is initially aimed at graduates from 2020 and beyond, Okpebholo has expressed the possibility of extending it in the future.

Graduates selected for the programme will be rotated across different Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), and may also be placed in the private sector to broaden their professional experience.

The goal is to harness their expertise to improve the state’s service delivery and contribute to its development.

APGA Chieftain Begins Campaign To Replace Late Ifeanyi Ubah In Senate

Jude Emecheta, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra, has officially announced his campaign to replace the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the Senate. Ubah, who passed away on July 27, was laid to rest last week.

During a press briefing in Awka on Thursday, Emecheta, the former Managing Director of the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency, presented himself as the best candidate to address the security and developmental needs of Anambra South.

Emecheta argued that, unlike other aspirants, none of them were prioritizing the region’s security challenges or aligning with Governor Charles Soludo’s development plans.

He emphasized the importance of security for the state’s growth, stating, “Governor Soludo can only achieve his vision for Anambra if the state is secure.”

Emecheta stressed that cross-border crime is a major issue in the state, which has deterred investment, especially from affluent Anambra indigenes, stalling the region’s economic growth.

He vowed to make security his top priority if elected, asserting that it would pave the way for local investment and long-term development.

In his critique of other aspirants, Emecheta said that distributing handouts like rice, yams, and motorcycles was not the solution for Anambra South. Instead, he believes the focus should be on securing the region to attract sustainable development.

Addressing claims that he was closely associated with Edozie Njoku, the former factional national chairman of APGA, Emecheta confirmed their friendship but clarified that he had attempted to discourage Njoku from taking actions that went against the APGA leadership.

He emphasized that his efforts to dissuade Njoku were known to both the former and current APGA national chairmen, Dr. Victor Oye and Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa.
