Efforts Ongoing To Stabilize National Grid, TCN Assures

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that it is actively working to stabilize the national grid following a disturbance that occurred at 11:29 am on Thursday.

In a statement issued in Abuja, TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, explained that the disturbance was triggered by a sudden frequency surge from 50.33Hz to 51.44Hz.

Recovery efforts were immediately initiated, with the Abuja region being restored within 28 minutes.

Mbah attributed the frequency spike to a malfunction at one of TCN’s substations, which was subsequently shut down as a precautionary measure to prevent further issues.

She also outlined ongoing repair and upgrade works at several critical transmission points to ensure grid stability.

“We are currently engaged in extensive repair works on key transmission lines and substations. This includes work on the 330kV transmission lines along the Shiroro–Mando corridor, major upgrades at the Jebba Transmission substation, and the restoration of the second Ugwuaji–Apir 330kV transmission line.” she said.

The General Manager also highlighted that, following an investigation into previous grid failures, TCN has begun addressing vulnerabilities identified within the transmission system.

The company is implementing a combination of technical upgrades and strategic interventions based on the findings from the investigative report.

“While these repairs are ongoing, we expect that some instability may continue until the major work is completed,” Mbah added.

“We ask for the public’s understanding and patience as we work through these challenges.”

Mbah reassured Nigerians that TCN remains committed to improving the reliability of the national grid, recognizing its crucial role in powering the country’s socio-economic development.

She also emphasized that efforts to address issues like vandalized transmission lines are part of the company’s broader strategy to ensure long-term grid stability.

NNPCL Denies Allegations of Selling Adulterated Fuel In Jerrycans, Labels Viral Video ‘Fake’

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has dismissed claims made in a viral video that the company sold adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in bottles and jerrycans.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Olufemi Soneye, NNPC Ltd.’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, clarified that the company conducted thorough checks at its retail outlets and found the allegations to be baseless.

The video in question shows an individual pouring a dark liquid, allegedly PMS, purchased from an NNPC Retail outlet near Keffi Flyover.

Soneye categorically stated that the product shown in the video did not come from any NNPC Retail station. He further emphasized that NNPC does not sell petroleum products in bottles or jerrycans.

“We want to make it clear that the product shown in the video was not, and could not have been, purchased from any NNPC Retail outlet. Our stations follow strict guidelines and do not dispense fuel in unauthorized containers,” Soneye explained.

The NNPC Ltd. spokesman reassured the public that the company adheres to high standards of quality control and product integrity.

“We are committed to offering only high-quality, safe, and reliable petroleum products at our stations nationwide,” he added.

Soneye also urged Nigerians to disregard the misleading video, which he said was part of a campaign to spread falsehoods for personal or malicious reasons.

He reiterated that NNPC Retail Ltd. takes the quality of its products seriously, with regular inspections and calibrations to ensure that fuel dispensed at all outlets meets required standards.

“NNPC Ltd. has a well-established system of regular pump integrity checks and product quality inspections to maintain consumer trust and satisfaction,” Soneye concluded.

Obaseki Willingly Offers To Submit To EFCC If Called

The outgoing Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has declared that he would voluntarily hand himself over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) if the anti-graft agency requires his presence in connection with his tenure in the state.

Speaking on Thursday in Abuja at the EdoBEST National Results-Sharing Session, an event that showcased the achievements of his administration, particularly in the education sector, Obaseki made it clear that he was not afraid of any investigation.

“I’m not afraid of the EFCC. Why should I be? What is important is focus. I came into office and ignored the noise, concentrating on what I felt was important, and today you can see the results,” Obaseki said.

“If the EFCC calls on me, I will hand myself over; I have nothing to hide.”

Obaseki’s comments come amidst political tensions in the state, where opposition parties have raised concerns about his administration’s handling of public funds.

Despite this, the governor emphasized that his achievements in Edo State, particularly in the education sector, were proof of his integrity.

“I have nothing to fear regarding any allegations. My administration has made remarkable progress, especially in education.” he said

Criticizing opposition parties, especially the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obaseki accused them of focusing on “unnecessary and silly petitions” rather than addressing the country’s pressing challenges.

He further called on the APC to shift its attention from political vendettas and focus on solving the problems faced by Nigerians.

“The suffering is too much. We, who are privileged, should focus on making a positive impact, not on side issues like vendetta,” he stated.

Obaseki also took aim at his political opponents in Edo State, calling them “bitter” and “full of vendetta,” accusing them of jealousy over his administration’s achievements.

Reflecting on his legacy, Obaseki expressed pride in the educational reforms his administration had implemented. He pointed out that under his leadership, over 400,000 children had been enrolled in schools, with an emphasis on data-driven educational policies that made tangible progress.

“You can come to Edo and see the data. We have enrolled over 400,000 children, and you can identify them because the data on every child is there.”

He also highlighted a significant achievement: the commissioning of a newly rebuilt technical college aimed at providing vocational training for young people in areas such as catering, mechanics, bricklaying, and construction, thereby helping them become self-reliant and useful to society.

Additionally, Obaseki expressed his opposition to a proposal from the Nigerian Academy of Letters, which suggested that unity schools be handed over to state governments.

He argued that unity schools, originally intended to be elite institutions for exceptional students, should be managed by both private and public entities capable of providing the resources required to meet global educational standards.

“The original intention of unity schools was to make them elite institutions for the best and brightest,” Obaseki remarked, referencing a speech made by Prof. Olubayi Olubayi, the keynote speaker at the event. “Unity schools should cater to exceptional students from across the country, equipping them to lead in policy-making and innovation.”

Emphasizing the importance of quality over ownership, Obaseki concluded, “What matters is not ownership but the output and quality of education produced by these institutions.”

Equatorial Guinea Official Dismissed Over Sex Scandal

Equatorial Guinea’s President, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, has dismissed Baltasar Engonga, the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), following a sex scandal that has shocked the nation.

Engonga, a 54-year-old economist, was removed from his position and replaced by Zenón Obiang Obiang Avomo, according to reports from local news outlets Ahora EG and Real Equatorial Guinea.

The dismissal is linked to a range of serious allegations, including Engonga’s involvement in an illicit scheme where he secretly filmed explicit videos with the wives of high-ranking officials.

According to Ahora EG, the scandal came to light during a fraud investigation, which led authorities to raid Engonga’s office and home.

During the search, investigators uncovered more than 400 videos, some of which allegedly feature prominent women, such as the President’s sister, the wife of the Inspector General of Police, and several wives of ministers in the government.

The footage was reportedly recorded with the consent of the women involved, though it has since been leaked, causing a media frenzy.

In addition to the explicit content, Engonga’s conduct was also deemed inappropriate for someone holding a public office, leading to his dismissal as outlined in Decree number 118/2024, issued on November 4.

The case has drawn widespread attention in Equatorial Guinea, with many describing it as one of the most shocking scandals to ever emerge in the country.

“America Has Disgraced Itself by Electing Trump; The World Is Disappointed” – Prof. Akinyemi Warns of Global Instability

Prominent Nigerian political scientist, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, has expressed disappointment in the United States’ decision to elect Donald Trump as president, claiming that it has let down the rest of the world.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Akinyemi criticized the American electorate for choosing Trump, describing it as a “low point” for the country.

Trump, who secured victory over Vice President Kamala Harris after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, has drawn significant global scrutiny.

Akinyemi voiced concerns about Trump’s foreign policy, particularly regarding his strong alliances with Russia and Israel, warning that nations like Ukraine and Palestine could face greater challenges under his leadership.

“Look at how far America has fallen. It has disgraced itself,” Akinyemi said.

“The world is disappointed by the decision it made last night.”

He also expressed concern about the potential consequences of Trump’s rhetoric becoming reality.

Akinyemi suggested that Trump could take drastic actions, such as sending U.S. troops to target America’s perceived enemies and ramping up deportations of immigrants, with severe consequences for those who return.

He also referenced the controversial Guantanamo Bay detention center, noting that while previous Democratic administrations, including Biden’s, had sought to shut it down, Republican opposition has kept it open.

Anambra: Litigants Protest Ongoing Closure of Federal High Court Over Simon Ekpa’s Threat

Litigants in Anambra State have expressed frustration over the continued closure of the Federal High Court in Awka, which has remained shut since Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

The closure is reportedly in response to a renewed threat from Simon Ekpa, the leader of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRIGE), who demanded that the Federal Government release all detained Biafrans to the Southeast or face further disruptions, including the closure of courts across the region.

Several litigants, some of whom have experienced multiple adjournments due to previous judge transfers, voiced their dismay at the continuing delays.

They argued that, despite the recent appointment of new judges in Anambra, court operations have been stalled by the threat, leaving many cases in limbo.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, some litigants criticized the judiciary staff and other civil servants, alleging that they often use such situations as an excuse to avoid work.

While acknowledging that judges and lawyers are ready to proceed with hearings, they pointed out that the absence of court staff has hindered progress.

One litigant called the situation “unacceptable,” highlighting the irony that the state capital, which houses both the state police command and the seat of government, remains paralyzed by an external threat.

Chief Sylvanus, one of the frustrated litigants, said he was unaware of any new ultimatum issued by Ekpa, noting that the previous deadline had ended on October 27, 2024.

Another anonymous litigant questioned why a threat originating from Finland would be able to shut down courts in Nigeria, calling for greater security measures to ensure that court operations continue unaffected by external influences.

“Has Anambra State really become so lawless that an online threat can bring everything to a halt?” one litigant asked.

“Why isn’t the police stepping in to provide protection for the court and citizens?”

The litigants also noted that Federal High Courts in other Southeastern states, including Imo, Enugu, Abia, and Ebonyi, continue to operate without disruptions.

They expressed disappointment that Awka, the state capital, is the only one affected, calling the closure a “humiliation” for both the state and federal governments.

“This is an attack on the people of Anambra State,” one litigant stated.

“Thousands of cases are delayed, many of them involving people whose freedom or livelihood is at stake. The holiday season is approaching, and people who could be freed from detention remain locked up, while others wait for justice in cases affecting public welfare.”

They urged both federal and state authorities to take immediate action to secure the court and resume legal proceedings, emphasizing the need for swift action to prevent further disruptions to justice in the region.

Individuals Behind My Death Rumors Are Jealous of The Ovation I Received At Iwuanyanwu’s Burial – Okorocha

Senator Rochas Okorocha, former Governor of Imo State, has responded to recent rumors claiming he had passed away, dismissing the reports as malicious and born out of jealousy.

The rumors, which circulated on November 6, 2024, falsely claimed that Okorocha had died in a London hospital from a fabricated illness described as “acute gorilla.”

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha clarified that he was alive and in good health.

“He had been in Owerri attending the burial of the late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, and had no health issues.”

The statement emphasized that Okorocha had been active, attending public events and services, including one in Abuja in honor of notable Igbos, such as Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.

The statement expressed disappointment at the spread of the rumors and attributed the false reports to envy over the warm reception Okorocha had received during the burial ceremony.

Okorocha’s supporters had given him significant applause and ovation during the event, which the former governor believes triggered the unfounded rumors.

“To all well-meaning Nigerians, the news of Rochas Okorocha’s death is false. He is alive, healthy, and continues to engage in his normal activities.”

The statement went on to criticize the individuals behind the rumors, describing them as “spiritually dead” and suggesting that they were upset over Okorocha’s recognition at the burial.

Okorocha, however, refrained from responding with anger, instead offering prayers for the individuals responsible.

“We do not curse those whom God has blessed. We pray for their spiritual healing and hope for their repentance and a return to normalcy.”

Okorocha’s spokesperson urged the public to disregard the malicious rumors and focus on the former governor’s ongoing contributions to public life.

Malaysia To Phase Out CNG Vehicles Over Safety Concerns

The Malaysian government has announced plans to phase out compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered vehicles due to safety concerns, marking the end of the sale and registration of such vehicles in the country.

Transport Minister, Loke Siew Fook revealed that new measures would be implemented to halt the use of CNG vehicles, citing the safety risks associated with their gas tanks.

Starting July 1, 2025, no new CNG-powered vehicles will be allowed to be registered in Malaysia. The decision follows concerns over the age and safety of the compressed natural gas (CNG) tanks, which have a typical service life of 15 years.

Loke noted that a significant number of the country’s 44,383 CNG vehicles are nearing the end of their tank lifespan, which poses a potential safety risk, as these vehicles have been involved in accidents leading to explosions.

CNG vehicles currently represent only about 0.2% of the total vehicle population in Malaysia, excluding motorcycles.

The government’s decision to phase out CNG vehicles is part of broader efforts to enhance road safety for the public.

CNG usage in Malaysia began in the late 1990s, but concerns over the safety of the gas tanks have led to this decisive policy change.

Gov. Otti Renames Abia Polytechnic In Honour Of Late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially renamed Abia State Polytechnic Aba to Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, in tribute to the late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the first Executive Governor of the state.

The announcement was made during an interdenominational church service held on Thursday in Umuahia, the state capital, to honour the late statesman.

The polytechnic was established in 1992 under Onu’s leadership, and Governor Otti emphasized that the renaming was a reflection of Onu’s lasting legacy.

He praised Onu for his visionary role in advancing education and creating institutions that contributed to the state’s development.

“Dr. Onu was a leader who understood that true development comes from building strong educational institutions that equip young people with the skills needed to thrive, particularly in the fields of technology, science, education, and agriculture,” Otti remarked during the service.

Otti further highlighted that Onu’s impact went beyond education.

He noted that Onu abolished the divisive indigene/non-indigene policy in Abia’s civil service, thereby fostering a more inclusive environment that enabled citizens based on their skills, not ethnicity, to secure employment.

Under Onu’s administration, Abia experienced significant reforms, including the establishment of the polytechnic and the promotion of educational excellence.

Onu also made history as the first chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Elected Governors, where he played a key role in strengthening the governance body and advancing democratic ideals.

Governor Otti also acknowledged Onu’s pivotal role in the country’s political landscape, particularly during the transition to the Fourth Republic, where he became a major presidential contender.

Otti recalled Onu’s steadfast commitment to national development, democracy, and the well-being of all Nigerians, transcending ethnic and religious divides.

“Dr. Onu was a true patriot and nationalist who always saw beyond sectional interests, believing that every Nigerian had the right to pursue their dreams wherever they chose to live in the country,”

“His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.” Otti added.
