It was a gathering of dignitaries both from Nkanu land and beyond as Nigeria’s former Minister of Power, Distinguished Professor Bart Nnaji, received the prestigious Chieftaincy title ECHERIBE 1 of Nkanu land from the Nkanu Odenigbo General Assembly on Saturday.
In his opening address, Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Silk Ugwu, expressed the purpose of the gathering, highlighting Prof. Nnaji’s groundbreaking achievements as the first African Professor of Robotics Engineering and his significant contributions to the development of Nkanu land, the Southeast region, Nigeria, Africa, and the global community.
He hailed Prof. Nnaji as a global citizen whose impact on society will resonate for generations.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Nkanu Odenigbo General Assembly, Chief Madueke Ngene, and Senator Kelvin Chukwu, representing Enugu East senatorial zone, lauded Prof. Nnaji’s outstanding leadership and dedication to the advancement of Nkanu land.
They emphasized the transformative effect of his visionary initiatives on the socio-economic landscape of the region.
Conferring chieftaincy title on Prof. Nnaji
Daily Gazette Correspondent reports that the event brought together prominent political figures from various parties, including the Labour Party Governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, Barr. Chijioke Edeoga, and members of the House of Representatives such as Prof. Paul Nnamchi and Hon. Chimaobi Atu.
Also in attendance were the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, members of the House of Assembly, as well as religious and traditional leaders.
The highlight of the event was the conferment of the Chieftaincy title upon Prof. Bart Nnaji and the recognition of his wife, Dr. Agatha Nnaji, as ‘Osodieme’.
Additionally, a monumental statue was unveiled in honor of Distinguished Professor Bart Okechukwu Nnaji, symbolizing his enduring legacy and the deep admiration of his people.
The ceremony featured captivating masquerade performances and traditional igede dances, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Nkanu people.
