The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a fuel tanker ingeniously modified to smuggle illegal drugs across Nigeria.

The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr. Femi Babafemi, shared the development via a post on X.com on Sunday, revealing that the vehicle had been equipped with a hidden compartment designed specifically for drug trafficking.

According to Babafemi, the illicit storage space was uncovered during a targeted stop-and-search operation by NDLEA operatives.

The concealed chamber was located in the lower part of the tanker, an area carefully crafted to avoid detection.

Describing the operation, Babafemi wrote: “Narco-trend: Fuel tanker on top but drug tanker beneath! Please watch how #ndlea_nigeria officers discovered a large storage created in the belly of this oil tanker for the sole purpose of moving drugs across the country.”

The agency has not disclosed the quantity or type of drugs recovered, but the operation highlights the increasing sophistication of drug trafficking methods in Nigeria.

Investigations into the source and destination of the shipment are ongoing.
