The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has issued a summons to Air Peace Limited in response to a growing number of customer complaints.

These range from failure to refund ticket fares to frequent flight cancellations, among other grievances.

In a statement shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, the FCCPC directed the airline to submit relevant documentation.

This includes a comprehensive list of refund complaints received over the past year, a full record of processed refunds to date, details of all cancelled flights across its network, and steps taken to reduce the hardship faced by affected passengers.

According to the Commission, these issues run afoul of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA), specifically Sections 130(1)(a)(b) and 130(2).

These provisions guarantee “consumers the right to timely refunds where advance bookings, reservations, or orders are unfulfilled due to service-provider’s failure,” the FCCPC noted.

The Commission formally summoned Air Peace in a letter dated June 13, 2025, citing its powers under Sections 32 and 33 of the FCCPA (2018).

The airline is expected to appear before the FCCPC at its Abuja headquarters on Monday, June 23, 2025.

This development follows the Commission’s earlier investigation, launched in December 2024, into allegations that Air Peace had been engaging in exploitative pricing practices.

The airline was accused of imposing sharp fare increases on advance bookings along specific domestic routes.

Air Peace, in response to the inquiry, has since filed a legal case to stop the Commission from continuing the investigation.

Despite this legal challenge, the FCCPC reaffirmed its stance, stating it “is committed to enforcing the provisions of the FCCPA (2018) and holding service providers accountable and ensuring that consumers, including airline passengers, are protected from exploitative or unfair market practices.”
