Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu state has approved the appointment of new leadership for the State’s Forest Guard.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Governor has appointed Colonel Dan Didiugwu (rtd) as the Chairman of the Enugu State Forest Guard and DCP Olamitisoji Akinbamilayo, PhD (rtd) as the Commander of the Forest Guard.

While Colonel Didiugwu’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the Enugu State House of Assembly, DCP Akinbamilayo’s appointment takes immediate effect.

The appointments, the government noted, are part of a broader effort to professionalize and restructure the state’s forest and environmental security architecture, in line with the Mbah administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and natural resources throughout the state.

As part of this restructuring, the government also announced the abolition of the position of State Coordinator of the Forest Guard, with the office of the Commander now serving as the top operational authority.

“The State Government expresses confidence in the capacity and experience of both Colonel Didiugwu and DCP Akinbamilayo to reposition the Forest Guard into a highly responsive and efficient outfit,” the statement read.
