The Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Ogbodo, has commended Governor Peter Mbah for the strategic launch of the Enugu Air initiative, describing it as a bold step toward transforming the infrastructure landscape of the South-East and redefining the identity of Enugu State.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the unveiling ceremony held at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu on Monday, Hon. Ogbodo said the launch of the state-owned airline represents a historic milestone that aligns with Governor Mbah’s vision of turning Enugu into a hub for commerce, innovation, and regional connectivity.
“This is not just about an airline; this is about legacy, vision, and economic emancipation. Enugu Air will boost regional infrastructure, create jobs, attract investments, and ultimately redefine how Enugu is perceived both within Nigeria and across West Africa,” Ogbodo said.
He added that the initiative would serve as a catalyst for economic growth by enhancing logistics, tourism, and business travel for people within the South-East and beyond.
Ogbodo praised the governor for fulfilling a campaign promise that many had previously considered too ambitious.
“Governor Mbah has proven again that he is not here to make excuses but to deliver results. With this project, we are looking at improved air connectivity, reduced cost of doing business, and renewed investor confidence in our region,” he stated.
The council boss further noted that local governments stand to benefit directly from the economic ripple effects of the airline, citing the potential for increased revenue, local hiring, and the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the transport and hospitality sectors.
“We expect this initiative to stimulate development in tourism, trade, agriculture, and even education, as Enugu becomes more accessible. The multiplier effects will touch every ward and community,” Ogbodo added.
DAILY GAZETTE reports that Enugu Air is one of the flagship projects of Governor Mbah’s administration, designed to accelerate his broader economic modernization agenda.
In his remarks at the unveiling, Governor Peter Mbah stated that the airline was born out of a desire to “connect the people, create prosperity, and open up Enugu to the world.”
