Veteran Nollywood actor Tom Njemanze has died following a lengthy struggle with prostate cancer, marking another heartbreaking loss in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
The news of his passing was announced on Saturday, July 19, by filmmaker Stanley Ontop, who shared that the actor died the day before.
“It’s another sad period as we just received news from Tom Njemanze’s family that he has succumbed to his ailment and passed on yesterday. May his soul RIP. It’s well. We tried to save him Buh God knows best. Nollywood lost another legend. Ije Uwa,”
Ontop posted on Instagram.
Njemanze gained prominence in the 1990s, becoming a household name through standout performances in Nollywood films such as Tokunboh, Pounds and Dollars, Atosa, Issakaba, Osuofia in London, Brain Box, and Igbotic Love, among others.
Before his passing, Stanley Ontop had previously released a heartfelt video appeal on social media, disclosing the actor’s condition and calling on the public for financial support for a critical prostate cancer surgery.
“We tried to save him Buh God knows best,” Ontop reiterated, reflecting the deep sorrow shared by fans and industry colleagues.
