In a landmark development for the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Professor Simon Ortuanya has been appointed the new Vice Chancellor, ending what many have described as a 60-year-long jinx in the institution’s leadership history.
The announcement, DAILY GAZETTE reports, has been met with celebration across Enugu State and beyond.
One of the first to publicly acknowledge the appointment was the Chief Whip of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Ejike Eze, who expressed his joy and admiration in a congratulatory statement.
“Congratulations to Prof. Simon Ortuanya on your well-deserved emergence as Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka,” Eze wrote.
“Your appointment is the result of hard work, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to excellence and the progress of our people.”
Eze also extended appreciation to the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for what he described as a “pivotal role” in facilitating this significant achievement.
“Sincere gratitude to His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the people’s governor, for making this historic milestone a reality,” he added.
Prof. Ortuanya, a respected law professor, brings with him a distinguished track record in public service and academia.
He has previously served as Secretary to the Enugu State Government and was also the Director General of the South-East Governors’ Forum, where he played a strategic role in regional development initiatives.
