Police authorities in Rivers State have arrested a 23-year-old man, Kingsley Chinamezu, also known as Power Sharp, in connection with the gruesome murder of his girlfriend, Miss Confidence Konebari Sunny, aged 44.
According to police reports, the suspect attacked the victim with a machete on July 30, 2025, in Umuebule Community, located in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Following the attack, he fled the scene and went into hiding in Egbeta village, Edo State.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest and revealed that Chinamezu was captured by officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) after a targeted operation using technical intelligence.
“The Rivers State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in tackling violent crime. After committing the heinous act, the suspect not only fled but also issued further threats to the victim’s family, claiming he could harm them without consequences,” Iringe-Koko said.
The arrest was made on August 15, 2025, after the victim’s family lodged a formal complaint. Investigators swiftly tracked and apprehended the suspect at his hideout.
During interrogation, Chinamezu reportedly confessed to the crime and shared details surrounding the murder.
Investigators are now working to gather more evidence and are also profiling the suspect for possible links to other related criminal activities.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, praised the AKU operatives for their swift response and thorough investigation.
He assured the public that Rivers State would not provide refuge for criminals.
“Those who commit heinous crimes should know that the law will catch up with them swiftly and they will face justice,” CP Adepoju warned.
