Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has refuted reports suggesting he has declared his political intentions for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a recent appearance on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines with Nifemi Oguntoye, Obasa clarified that he did not announce any plans to run for governorship or a senatorial seat.
Instead, he emphasized that his political future, like that of all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), depends on decisions made by the party leadership.
“As politicians, we must await guidance from our party hierarchy on where we are best suited, whether as lawmakers, governors, or senators,” Obasa stated.
“There’s no need for speculation or misinterpretation. Our priority remains moving the country forward. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to make remarkable progress daily.”
Obasa also assured that he is not stepping away from politics anytime soon but remains aware of life beyond public office.
“Nigeria is our home; the APC is our family and our strength, growing stronger by the day,” he said.
When asked about his personal political ambitions, the Speaker said, “Life comes next. For now, let’s focus on living that life.”
He further underscored the importance of party discipline and respecting the collective decisions of the APC leadership.
“In politics, loyalty to the party and respect for its leadership are essential. One cannot unilaterally decide their next step; it’s always a process of consultation and alignment with party decisions. Whether as Speaker, Deputy Governor, Governor, or Senator, these decisions are made collectively by our leaders,” Obasa concluded.
