Mustapha Ibn Mustapha was arraigned before the Borno State High Court on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 for allegedly defrauding people by selling land that belongs to the Borno State Government.
According to a statement from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mustapha collected ₦5,555,000 from unsuspecting buyers in exchange for thirty plots of land located in Njimtilo, Konduga Local Government Area, behind Borno State University.
The EFCC clarified that the land was not his to sell and that he failed to deliver possession of any plots. All efforts by the buyers to recover their money have thus far failed.
He is facing a three‑count charge of obtaining by false pretence and criminal conspiracy, under Section 1 and Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.
During the reading of the charges, Mustapha entered a not guilty plea.
His lawyer, S.O. Saka, asked the court to fix a date for trial and to remand him in a correctional centre.
