Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has announced plans to hire 3,000 additional teachers to further bolster the education system across the state.
This announcement came through a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, on Wednesday.
The governor had recently led the ceremony handing appointment letters to 5,000 contract teachers, formalizing their status.
Okpebholo emphasized the importance of manpower in schools, saying:
“With improvements made to school facilities and infrastructure, it is essential to expand our teaching personnel. No school should be without qualified teachers.”
The governor reiterated that teachers are a central pillar in his administration’s agenda, pledging sustained reforms in the education sector.
During a thanksgiving event, the Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) presented Okpebholo with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his efforts in reforming public education in the state.
In return, Okpebholo pledged support for teacher welfare, promising to donate a bus to NUT to assist in union operations across Edo’s 18 local government areas.
