Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad of the Enugu State Police Command have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered his vehicle, firearm, and live ammunition following a late-night pursuit that forced the abductors to flee.
The rescue operation occurred around 11:30 pm on October 19, 2025, along the Ozalla/Umueze axis in Nkanu West Local Government Area, after the Command received a distress call about the abduction of a man in the Awkunanaw area of Enugu.
Confirming the development, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said operatives immediately responded to the distress call and tracked the kidnappers to their hideout.
On noticing the advancing police team, the suspects abandoned the victim and escaped into the night, leaving behind vital evidence.
Recovered from the scene were the victim’s Lexus 350 SUV, a locally made Beretta-like pistol, and three live rounds of ammunition.
According to Ndukwe, “The rescue and recoveries followed the operatives’ swift response to a distress call reporting the abduction of the victim within the Awkunanaw area of Enugu. The team pursued the suspects to the mentioned location, where they escaped, abandoning the victim and the recovered exhibits.”
The victim was later reunited with his family, while police operatives have launched a manhunt to track down the fleeing suspects.
Commending the officers for their courage and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eliminating violent crime in the state.
“The Command will continue to sustain the fight against unrepentant criminals in the state,” CP Giwa said. “We urge residents to remain law-abiding and assist the Police with credible information that can help us keep Enugu safe.”
The Enugu State Police Command assured residents that it remains vigilant and proactive, with intensified patrols and tactical operations ongoing across identified flashpoints to ensure the continued safety of lives and property in the state.
