Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, who represents the Ideato North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has announced that all lawmakers from Imo State have reached a unified position on the push for the creation of Anim State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ugochinyere revealed that the legislators unanimously endorsed Anim State as their collective proposal after a lengthy deliberation held Tuesday night in Abuja.
According to him, the new state would become the sixth in the Southeast geopolitical zone.
He explained that the proposed state comes with significant economic potential, especially in the area of gas production, and fits well within the historical narrative of state formation in the region.
The Anim State project, he added, would draw territory from parts of Anambra and Imo States and establish Ideato as a new senatorial district.
Ugochinyere expressed appreciation to Senator Osita Izunaso and other Imo lawmakers for their collaboration and commitment, noting that their joint effort has advanced a long-standing aspiration for the Southeast.
He urged his colleagues to remain resolute, emphasizing that the collective interests of the Igbo people must be prioritized over personal ambitions.
“Let me use this medium to thank my brother, Senator Osita Izunaso, my distinguished colleagues from Imo, and the entire Southeast for their unity, dedication, and cooperation that helped bring weeks of consultations and negotiations to a successful conclusion,” he said.
“The East has spoken, and we hope our brothers across the country will stand with us as we work towards achieving this long-desired goal.”
