The Lagos State Police Command has questioned Pastor Chris Okafor, Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, over allegations bordering on rape and other forms of sexual misconduct.
Sources familiar with the investigation said the cleric honoured a police invitation and was interrogated for several hours at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos.
The police action followed petitions from several individuals who accused the pastor of committing multiple offences, including sexual assault.
After the interrogation, Pastor Okafor was released on self-recognition, meaning he was not required to meet any bail conditions or provide sureties.
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the cleric was released to enable him respond to a similar matter already pending at the Zone 2 Police Headquarters, Onikan.
“Yes, Pastor Okafor honoured our invitation and was questioned. He was later released on self-recognition,” Adebisi said.
She added that the pastor would be invited again after issues surrounding the case at Zone 2 had been resolved.
“Our findings showed that he has a related case at Zone 2. He will be re-invited after the matter there has been dispelled,” the police spokesperson explained.
Attempts to get a reaction from Pastor Okafor or his representatives were unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.
