The inauguration of the Enugu Haier Factory, a $20 million Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) by the Chinese Haier Global Business, marks a significant milestone in Enugu State’s economic development.

The factory, which will produce smart phones, tablets, computers, and other ICT products, is a testament to the state government’s commitment to repositioning Enugu as a premier destination for investment, industry, and knowledge-driven growth.

Governor Peter Mbah, who inaugurated the factory, hailed the investment as a game-changer for the state’s economy.

He noted that the factory would not only produce Made in Enugu technologies that compete globally but also support key local sector developments, reduce costs, and ensure sustainability.

The governor also emphasized that the factory would serve as a practical training platform for the state’s vocational and technical institutions, generate employment, and stimulate complementary small and medium-scale enterprises.

The Vice President of Haier Group, Sun Yongle, revealed that the factory would produce 200,000 units of various product lines annually and employ about 100 people for a start.

He added that Haier Group was working on a $30 million investment in the state, expanding to mining, agriculture, and other sectors.

The Enugu Haier Factory is the latest in a string of FDIs attracted to the state, including the ongoing electric car assembly plant construction at Owo by the Stallion Group and the Nortra Tractor Assembly Plant and Service Centre, Enugu, an investment by ODK Group of Denmark.

These investments are a testament to the state government’s efforts to create a conducive business environment and attract investors.

Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, praised the partnership between the Enugu State Government and Haier Group, noting that it aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and vision of taking Nigeria to a $1 trillion economy.

As Enugu State continues to attract investments and grow its economy, the people are optimistic about the future. Miss Precious Anih, a student of TVET College, GTC, Enugu, expressed her gratitude to Governor Mbah for giving meaning to the dreams and future of Enugu children and youths.

The Enugu Haier Factory is a beacon of hope for the state’s economic growth and development. With its focus on innovation, industrialization, and technical education, Enugu State is poised to become a hub for investments and economic activities in Nigeria.
