Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested three male suspects and recovered a firearm, live ammunition, and other exhibits in a series of coordinated operations aimed at curbing criminal activities across the state.
The arrests, carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, form part of ongoing proactive policing strategies to enhance security and public safety.
According to a statement made available to DAILY GAZETTE on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the breakthrough was recorded during separate operations on March 15, 2026.
In one of the operations, police operatives on surveillance patrol along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway intercepted a tricycle without a registration number at about 9:00 a.m.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a locally fabricated double-barrel pistol.
Two suspects, identified as Ugochukwu Samuel, 26, and Kevin Kosichukwu, 26, were arrested at the scene, while the tricycle was also taken into custody.
In a related development, operatives attached to the Udenu Area Command, while on stop-and-search duty along Nsukka Road in Orba, intercepted a motorcycle conveying two young men around 10:30 a.m.
Upon sighting the police, one of the suspects fled into a nearby bush, while the rider, identified as Chinedu Harrison, 17, was apprehended.
A search conducted on him led to the recovery of six rounds of 9mm live ammunition.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the Arrow Barger cult group and provided useful information to investigators.
Police authorities say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle other criminal networks linked to the incidents.
The arrested suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism, CP Giwa urged officers and men of the Command to remain steadfast in their commitment to proactive policing.
He also called on residents of Enugu State to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive by providing credible information to security agencies.
The Command reaffirmed its determination to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure the safety of lives and property.
