Iran’s Supreme Court has affirmed the death sentence against Iranian pop singer Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, popularly known as Tataloo, after overturning an earlier five-year prison term issued by a Tehran criminal court.

Judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir told reporters on Saturday that “this ruling has now been confirmed and is ready for execution.”

He noted that the singer’s lawyer has filed two applications “typically a retrial request and a clemency plea” and that “these requests have been formally registered and are under review,” with a decision expected “in due course.”

Extradited from Turkey in December 2023, Tataloo was also handed a 10-year sentence for “promoting corruption and prostitution” and for spreading “propaganda” against the Islamic Republic; he remains in custody serving that term.

The heavily tattooed artist once drew support from conservative figures, including the late president Ebrahim Raisi.

In 2015, state media promoted his pro-nuclear-deal anthem during the administration of then-President Hassan Rouhani.
