A Toyota Avensis car reported stolen over three months ago in Benue State has been successfully recovered by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, following a strategic operation that led to the arrest of three suspects.

The vehicle, which was stolen on June 29, 2025, from where it was parked in Otukpo, Benue State, was recovered on October 13 at about 2:10 p.m. in Ibagwa-Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area, after police received a credible tip-off.

According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the operation was conducted by officers attached to Unity Police Division.

The three suspects arrested in connection with the stolen vehicle are Ernest Oshi (51 years old), Ukpai Ifeanyi (36 years old) and Ogbuzulu David (32 years old).

Preliminary investigations reveal a chain of questionable transactions involving the vehicle.

According to police findings, Ernest Oshi, the final possessor of the car, claimed he bought it from Ukpai Ifeanyi, a mechanic.

Ifeanyi, in turn, said he had acquired the vehicle from Ogbuzulu David, a car dealer.

David reportedly told police that he purchased the vehicle from an unnamed mechanic based in Benue State.

All three suspects have reportedly confessed to their roles in the incident and are cooperating with investigators as the case continues to unfold.

Given that the original theft occurred in Benue State, both the suspects and the recovered vehicle have been transferred to the Benue State Police Command, which holds jurisdiction over the case.

Authorities say this move is to ensure a conclusive investigation and appropriate prosecution.

The Enugu State Police Command praised the swift response of its officers and the timely intelligence from the public, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration in tackling car theft and organized crime.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, as police continue efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating across state lines.
