Five Armed Robbery Suspects Arrested In Enugu

SP Daniel Ndukwe,

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested five male suspects for alleged involvement in armed robbery and other related crimes across different parts of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that operatives also recovered two firearms and seven rounds of ammunition during the operations.

According to Ndukwe, on October 29 around 5:45 pm, operatives of the Distress Response Squad intercepted a shuttle bus traveling from Enugu to Abakaliki during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Enugu–Abakaliki Road.

“Upon searching the vehicle, officers found a locally made cut-to-size single-barrel gun in the possession of one of the occupants, who was immediately taken into custody. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was traveling from Awka, Anambra State,” Ndukwe said.

In another operation on October 28 at about 10:30 pm, members of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, acting on credible intelligence, raided a hideout at New Garriki by Ukwu-Achara, Enugu, and arrested another suspect.

“A locally fabricated Beretta-style pistol loaded with one round of 9mm ammunition was recovered from him,” he added.

Earlier, on October 20 at around 2 p.m., police operatives working jointly with Neighbourhood Watch members raided a black spot at Amechi-Awkunanaw, leading to the arrest of three additional suspects. Six live cartridges were recovered during the raid.

Ndukwe said the suspects would be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.

The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, commended the operatives for their successful efforts and urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies, especially during the high-crime “ember” months.

“The Command reaffirms its unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the state,” the statement read.

Alleged Coup: Seven Military Officials On The Run As Nigeria Vows To Punish 30 Over Alleged Plot To Overthrow Tinubu

Nigeria’s investigation into a suspected coup attempt has entered a decisive phase, with at least 30 suspects, including senior military officers, slated for prosecution after weeks of questioning by security agencies.

According to sources, a preliminary report from the Special Investigative Panel has been completed and will soon be presented to President Bola Tinubu.

The report lists more than 30 individuals to be charged, while seven others remain unaccounted for.

“Their phones have been switched off, and they could not be located,” a source said, confirming an ongoing manhunt.

The probe, led by Major General Emmanuel Undiendeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence, is expected to determine whether the accused will face military or civilian courts based on their ranks and affiliations.

The Chief of Defence Staff and other service chiefs are scheduled to meet before briefing the president.

Earlier reports revealed that 16 senior officers were arrested in September after intelligence indicated secret meetings aimed at toppling the government.

Fourteen are from the Army, and two from the Navy and Air Force. The identities of the new suspects remain undisclosed.

Among those linked to the case is former Bayelsa governor and ex-minister of petroleum, Timipre Sylva, whose Abuja residence was recently searched by soldiers.

His spokesperson, Julius Bokoru, denied any connection to the alleged plot, saying Sylva was out of the country at the time.

While the Defence Headquarters initially described the arrests as an internal disciplinary action, sources suggest a formal statement may soon be issued on the investigation’s outcome.

Security reports earlier indicated that the alleged plotters had targeted key government figures, including President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

In the aftermath, President Tinubu ordered sweeping changes within the military leadership, though no official link has been made to the coup investigation.

Enugu Rep Member, Prof. Nnamchi Condemns Deadly Communal Clash In Umuchigbo, Sues For Peace

The lawmaker representing Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi, has condemned in strong terms the recent communal clash in Umuchigbo-Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area, which resulted in the loss of several lives.

Describing the incident as tragic and deeply painful, Professor Nnamchi said the violence was a betrayal of the values and spirit of the Nike people.

“The spilling of blood on our own soil is a tragedy that wounds the very soul of our beloved Nike Land. We cannot build our future on the ashes of hatred or the tears of our brothers,” he lamented.

The lawmaker urged residents to reject division and embrace dialogue as the only path toward sustainable peace.

“This is not who we are. Such senseless bloodshed has no place in the Nike Clan. We must rise above anger and resentment, and work together to restore peace, justice, and mutual respect,” he said.

Professor Nnamchi also emphasized that the time had come for all stakeholders to prioritize reconciliation and healing.

“Now is the time to choose peace over vengeance, dialogue over division, and humanity over hostility. This unfortunate incident does not reflect our culture or our traditions,” he stated.

He commended the security agencies for their prompt response in containing the situation and urged them to intensify efforts to prevent further violence.

The lawmaker further called on community leaders, traditional rulers, and youth groups to embrace dialogue and work collectively to ensure lasting peace returns to Umuchigbo and the wider Nike community.

Warri-Itakpe Train Derails Four Days After Service Resumes, NRC Stops Operations

Train operations along the Warri–Itakpe corridor have again been suspended after a derailment occurred on Saturday evening in the Agbor area of Delta State, just four days after services resumed.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, noting that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded.

According to the statement signed by Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NRC, the derailment, which took place around 7:30 pm, affected two out of seven coaches on the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS).

“We are pleased to confirm that all passengers on board were safely evacuated to Agbor, and everyone has been fully accounted for. No casualties or injuries were recorded,” Opeifa said.

He added that a recovery team, supported by security personnel, had been deployed immediately to the scene and that recovery efforts were “progressing steadily.”

The NRC boss explained that as a precautionary measure, the corporation had suspended train operations on the route to allow for a comprehensive safety and security audit of the tracks and related infrastructure.

“As a precautionary measure, train services on the corridor have been temporarily suspended today to enable a comprehensive security and safety audit of the track and related infrastructure,” the statement read.

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause our valued passengers and the general public. Normal operations will resume as soon as it is verified safe to do so.”

The NRC also hinted that preliminary findings suggest vandalism may have played a role in the derailment.

Train services on the Warri–Itakpe line had only resumed earlier in the week after months of suspension due to previous technical and security challenges.

Tinubu, Trump To Hold Talks Over Christian Genocide Allegations – Bwala

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu is set to meet with U.S President Donald Trump following recent allegations of a Christian genocide in Nigeria, according to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala.

Bwala, who disclosed the development via a post on X (formerly Twitter), said the meeting between the two leaders would take place “in the coming days.”

“President Trump has assisted Nigeria greatly by authorising the sale of arms, which President Tinubu has effectively utilised in the ongoing fight against terrorism and the results are evident,” Bwala said.

He noted that both leaders share a strong commitment to tackling insurgency and all forms of terrorism, adding that the upcoming talks would address differing perspectives on whether terrorist attacks in Nigeria specifically target Christians or people of all faiths.

“Any differences in perception, whether terrorists in Nigeria attack only Christians or target all faiths and non-believers, will be discussed and resolved during the meeting, which could hold either at the State House in Abuja or the White House in Washington,” he added.

The announcement follows Trump’s recent warning of potential military action against Nigeria over alleged anti-Christian killings.

On Saturday, the U.S President said he had directed the newly renamed Department of War to “prepare for possible action,” threatening to cut off all aid to Nigeria if the killings continued.

“If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians,” Trump wrote on social media, warning the Nigerian government to act swiftly.

Trump also revealed plans to place Nigeria on the State Department’s “Countries of Particular Concern” list, which tracks nations accused of religious persecution.

Bwala emphasized that despite the tensions, Tinubu and Trump remain united in their goal of eradicating terrorism and ensuring peace across Nigeria and the broader region.

Yoruba Council Demands End To Petroleum Import Licences, Accuses Oil Cabals Of Sabotaging Dangote Refinery

The Yoruba Council Worldwide (Igbimo Apapo Yoruba L’Agbaye) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately stop the issuance of petroleum importation licences allegedly granted by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to certain oil marketers.

In an open letter to the President signed by Aare Oladotun Hassan, Esq, President of the Yoruba Council Worldwide, and dated November 3, 2025, the group accused a network of “oil cabals” of economic sabotage, terrorism, and a coordinated plot to blackmail Alhaji Aliko Dangote and cripple the operations of the Dangote Refinery.

The council, in collaboration with several civil society organizations including the Nigeria Coalition Group (NCG), the Nigeria Youth Coalition (NYC), and the Coalition of Southern Groups (CSG), alleged that the continuous approval of fuel importation licences violated Section 317 of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and undermined Nigeria’s local refining capacity.

“It is a total negation of Your Excellency’s Nigeria First policy and a deliberate effort to discourage local investors who have poured billions of dollars into Nigeria’s economy,” the statement read.

According to the council, the Dangote Refinery has already achieved national daily fuel sufficiency with a refining capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, projected to rise to 1.4 million barrels per day, describing the project as “the biggest single-train refinery in Africa and a pride to Nigeria.”

The petition further called for a forensic investigation into the activities of Festus Osifo, President of PENGASSAN/NUPENG, and other labour leaders accused of sabotaging the refinery through industrial actions and media campaigns.

“We demand a full-scale investigation by the NSA, DSS, NIA, NFIU, and the Nigeria Police into the financial dealings and sabotage networks of these individuals and organizations,” the statement continued.

The Yoruba Council condemned the alleged attempt by union leaders and marketers to “resurrect the era of fuel importation fraud” and commended Dangote for his recent investment of ₦2 trillion in new tanker trucks to ensure smooth fuel distribution across the country.

In conclusion, the group announced plans for a “Grand Solidarity Rally” in support of Alhaji Aliko Dangote and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, scheduled for Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the JJT Park, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, by 11 am.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” the statement declared.

Genocide: Don’t Test Trump, US Won’t Look Away – Rep. Riley Moore Warns Tinubu

The United States Representative for West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, Riley Moore, has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu, urging the Nigerian government to take seriously President Donald Trump’s threat of possible U.S military intervention over the alleged killings of Christians in Nigeria.

Reacting to Trump’s recent comments on what he described as a “genocide” against Christians, Moore said the U.S would no longer remain silent in the face of such atrocities.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the congressman cautioned the Nigerian government not to “test” President Trump’s resolve, saying the U.S. president had made his position clear.

“To the Government of Nigeria and @officialABAT: President Trump has provided forewarning. If you do not act swiftly to end the killing of our brothers and sisters in Christ, consequences will follow,” Moore wrote.

He added that the era of America “looking the other way” was over, emphasizing that the Trump administration would not tolerate violence against Christians in any part of the world.

“The days of the U.S. turning a blind eye are gone, it will never happen on @POTUS’ watch,” he said.

“I urge you to cooperate with us in preventing this atrocity that worsens by the day. We want your people to live in peace, all of them, especially Christians.”

Moore concluded with a strong warning:

“The President has been clear. I would not test his resolve. Many have tried and all have failed. We will not allow the gates of hell to prevail against the faithful.”

Trump had earlier threatened to deploy U.S. forces “guns-a-blazing” into Nigeria if the government failed to curb what he termed the systematic killing of Christians by Islamist militants.

FG Approves N11.9bn For Doctors’ Welfare, Begins Recruitment Of Health Workers

The Federal Government has released ₦11.9 billion to address outstanding welfare packages for medical personnel and has begun the process of large-scale recruitment across the health sector.

Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying President Bola Tinubu approved the payments as part of ongoing efforts to resolve the grievances of healthcare professionals, particularly members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).

According to Salako, an additional ₦21.3 billion has already been credited to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) account, with disbursements to beneficiaries underway.

He added that another ₦11.995 billion will be released within 72 hours to clear remaining arrears, including the accoutrement allowance, in line with the approved salary structure for the health sector.

“These payments are a demonstration of the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of our health workforce and promoting industrial harmony,” Salako said.

To tackle the effects of brain drain and staff shortages, the minister announced that the Federal Government had granted special recruitment waivers to enable mass hiring of doctors, nurses, and other professionals across federal health institutions.

He explained that the recruitment initiative forms part of a broader strategy to ensure that public hospitals are adequately staffed, safe, and capable of delivering quality healthcare to Nigerians.

Salako also confirmed that negotiations are ongoing with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), and the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) to sustain dialogue and prevent further industrial action.

These developments come amid renewed tension in the sector, following NARD’s announcement on October 26 of an indefinite nationwide strike scheduled to begin November 1, 2025.

In a statement, NARD President Dr. Mohammad Suleiman said the action followed the expiration of a 30-day ultimatum issued to the government over unresolved demands.

“The NEC has marshalled out minimum demands, strike monitoring directives, and ‘no work, no pay / no pay, no work’ resolutions needed for a successful execution of this action,” the association stated.

Salako reaffirmed that the Federal Government remains committed to protecting the rights and welfare of health workers while ensuring uninterrupted healthcare delivery across the country.

PDP National Chairman, Five Others Suspended, Wike’s Faction Takes Over

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has descended deeper into internal turmoil as two rival factions of its National Working Committee (NWC) emerged on Saturday, each announcing suspensions of top party officials.

A faction of the NWC, reportedly aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declared the suspension of the party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, along with five other senior members.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who led the faction, said the party’s National Vice Chairman (North Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman, had been appointed as the Acting National Chairman.

Anyanwu accused Damagum of incompetence, financial impropriety, and defiance of court rulings, stating that he would face a disciplinary committee.

“We have decided to suspend the National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, for one month for incompetence, financial misconduct, and disregard for court judgments. He is to appear before the Disciplinary Committee,” Anyanwu said.

He added that other NWC members, including National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, Deputy National Vice Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, National Financial Secretary Daniel Woyenguikoro, National Youth Leader Sulaiman Kadade, and Deputy National Secretary Setonji Koshoedo, had also been suspended for 30 days pending disciplinary action.

“All of them will be referred to the Disciplinary Committee to show cause why they should not be expelled from the party,” he stated.

Earlier on Saturday, however, the NWC loyal to Damagum had announced the suspension of Senator Anyanwu, National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), and two others, escalating the leadership tussle.

The PDP’s internal divisions, long simmering between camps loyal to Wike and other party leaders, appear to have reached a new flashpoint as the 2027 elections draw closer.

U.S Military May Strike Islamist Militants In Nigeria Over Christian Killings, Trump Warns

U.S President Donald Trump has warned that Washington may consider military intervention in Nigeria if the government fails to halt what he described as the “killing of Christians” by Islamist militants.

In a fiery post on his Truth Social platform, the former Republican president said he had instructed the Pentagon to begin drafting possible plans for action. The comments came a day after he claimed that Christianity was “facing an existential threat in Nigeria.”

“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the United States will immediately suspend all aid and assistance to Nigeria,” Trump wrote.

“We may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to wipe out the Islamic terrorists committing these horrible atrocities.”

He added: “I have directed our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we strike, it will be fast, decisive, and powerful, just like the thugs who attack our cherished Christians.”

Trump concluded his post with a direct warning: “THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, has been battling multiple security crises over the years. Experts note that violence in the country has claimed both Christian and Muslim lives, often rooted in complex ethnic, religious, and political tensions.

On Friday, Trump had earlier posted, without offering evidence, that “thousands of Christians are being killed” by “radical Islamists.”

While claims of anti-Christian persecution have circulated widely, analysts caution that Nigeria’s conflicts are multifaceted and not solely defined by religion.

The nation remains nearly evenly divided between a Muslim-majority north and a largely Christian south.
