I’ll Support Anyone Who Backs President Tinubu, Says Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared his unwavering support for individuals and political leaders who align with and support President Bola Tinubu.

Wike made the statement on Thursday during the flag-off of Lot 2 of the Karu Water Supply Project in Abuja.

While commending key figures such as former FCT Senator Philip Aduda and Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, Wike emphasized that the Tinubu administration would prioritize support for leaders who deliver results and maintain strong ties with the federal government.

“Support those who have the capacity to bring development. Support those that government will listen to,” Wike said.

Citing Aduda’s request, Wike promised the construction of a 2km road in Karu, stating that the project would be executed promptly due to Aduda’s influence and advocacy.

“There is a road you said is about 2km. Consider it done,” Wike said. “Aduda has the government’s ear, and that’s why we’re taking action immediately.”

He praised Maikalangu for effectively utilizing his access to government to attract infrastructure projects to the area, listing completed and ongoing works including Saburi Road, Kabusa-Takushere Road, Deidei Road, and others.

“Since Maikalangu became chairman of AMAC, he has brought government presence to the people. Anything he asks for, we will do,” Wike added.

He also made a clear political statement regarding loyalty to the presidency:

“I don’t know the party he (Maikalangu) belongs to, but I know he supports Tinubu. Anybody who supports Tinubu, I will support him.”

Wike criticized past administrations for neglecting essential needs, especially clean water in Karu, contrasting them with the current government’s fulfillment of its promise to provide potable water to the community.

“We’ve had governments that stayed here for five, even eight years. Did they give you water? But this government promised and has delivered,” he said.

“You must remember those who remember you. We’ve come to fulfil our promise, you now have clean and potable water.”

Philip Aduda, a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), served as Senator for the FCT from 2011 to 2023, while Maikalangu, originally elected under the PDP, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2024 and is currently seeking re-election in the February 2026 Area Council polls.

JUST IN: SDP Senator Dumps Party, Heads To APC

Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, has formally resigned from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the platform under which he was elected to represent Nasarawa West Senatorial District in the 2023 elections.

Wadada’s next political move is already in motion, as sources confirm he is preparing to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), with plans to contest the 2027 governorship election in Nasarawa State.

In a resignation letter addressed to the SDP Chairman of his Tudun Kofa Ward in Keffi Local Government Area, Wadada cited persistent internal crises within the party as the reason for his exit.

“This decision has not been taken lightly,” he wrote.

“But I feel compelled to do so due to the lingering internal crisis that has plagued our party. These conflicts have resulted in serious divisions and litigation within the SDP.”

He expressed gratitude for the platform the party provided and the relationships he built during his time with the SDP, but said the time had come to “move on and explore new avenues.”

Wadada, a founding member of the APC, parted ways with the party in 2022 after what he described as unjust denial of a senatorial ticket, prompting him to contest under the SDP.

In the 2023 election, he defeated APC’s Arc Shehu Tukur with 96,488 votes, while PDP’s Musa Galadima came third with 46,820 votes.

Having maintained close political ties with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wadada recently visited the Presidential Villa to discuss his planned return to the APC.

His move is widely seen as a strategic step ahead of the 2027 elections, where he is expected to run to succeed incumbent Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Wadada previously served two terms in the House of Representatives and has remained a prominent figure in Nasarawa politics.

US Court Overturns $464m Civil Fraud Fine Against Trump

A New York appellate court has thrown out the $464 million civil fraud penalty imposed on former U.S. President Donald Trump, ruling that the amount was excessive and violated the Eighth Amendment of the U.S Constitution, which prohibits excessive fines.

The fine had originally been handed down by Judge Arthur Engoron in February 2024, after finding that Trump, alongside his sons Donald Jr. and Eric Trump, had fraudulently inflated the value of assets to secure favorable loans and insurance deals.

In addition to the financial penalty, the original ruling included a three-year ban on Trump from operating any businesses in New York, a decision he had described as a “corporate death sentence.”

On Thursday, the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court upheld the fraud ruling itself but said the magnitude of the penalty imposed was disproportionate.

“The court agrees with the finding of fraud,” the ruling stated, “but the imposed penalty violates constitutional protections against excessive fines.”

New York Attorney General Letitia James, who filed the original suit, may still appeal the new ruling to the New York Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court.

Trump had consistently pushed back against the charges, labeling the case a politically motivated witch hunt aimed at undermining his 2024 presidential campaign. The financial penalties were already accruing interest as he pursued appeals.

Reacting to the ruling, Donald Trump Jr. celebrated the outcome on X (formerly Twitter), calling it a “massive win.”

“New York Appeals Court has just THROWN OUT President Trump’s $500+ Million civil fraud penalty! It was always a witch hunt… and even a left-leaning NY appeals court agrees! NO MORE LAWFARE!”

During the trial proceedings, which were conducted without a jury in accordance with New York state law, Trump alleged the case was being driven by the Biden administration in an effort to damage him politically.

Since the case was civil, not criminal, Trump was never at risk of jail time.

TICAD9: Africa Should Have Two Permanent Seats On UN Security Council – President Tinubu

At the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan, President Bola Tinubu made a strong appeal for reforms within the United Nations Security Council to grant Africa permanent representation.

Speaking at the plenary session focused on peace and stability, Tinubu insisted that Africa deserves two permanent seats on the council, complete with all the privileges, including the veto power.

He further emphasized the need for additional non-permanent seats for the continent, aligning with the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration.

“Nigeria firmly believes that Africa’s call for equitable and just representation at the UN Security Council is both reasonable and long overdue,” Tinubu stated.

“Africa should have two permanent seats with full privileges and additional non-permanent seats to reflect its growing influence.”

The President also took time to commend the Nigerian armed forces for their recent successes in combating insurgency and criminal activities, describing these achievements as pivotal for the country’s development and stability.

However, Tinubu warned that military victories alone are insufficient for lasting peace. Addressing root causes such as poverty, inequality, and exclusion is essential.

He highlighted innovative peace-building efforts, including recent mediation linked with economic investments in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as promising models.

“Nigeria’s courageous armed forces can win battles, but true justice for their sacrifice comes when governments tackle not just terrorism but also its underlying causes,” Tinubu noted.

He called on African nations and international partners to foster market-driven collaborations rather than relying on traditional aid, urging a shift towards sustainable economic partnerships that transcend outdated approaches.

The conference also saw Japanese Prime Minister pledging $5.5 billion in support for African development, underscoring the global commitment to the continent’s progress.

80 Year-Old Ugandan President Confirms Deal With US To Host Migrants Rejected For Asylum

Uganda has entered into a new agreement with the United States to receive migrants who have been denied asylum in the US but cannot return to their countries of origin, according to a senior government official.

The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the announcement Thursday, saying the arrangement is a “temporary” one, and will not apply to individuals with criminal records or unaccompanied minors.

“The agreement is in respect of Third Country Nationals who may not be granted asylum in the United States, but are reluctant to or may have concerns about returning to their countries of origin,” said Vincent Bagiire, the ministry’s permanent secretary, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

He added that Uganda prefers the individuals transferred under the deal to be from African countries, and that detailed implementation procedures are still being worked out.

This development comes just a day after Ugandan officials denied reports of any such agreement.

Now confirmed, it aligns Uganda with other East African countries; Rwanda and South Sudan that have also signed similar controversial migration arrangements with the US.

The policy is part of US President Donald Trump’s administration push to accelerate deportations of undocumented migrants, especially those whose countries of origin either cannot or will not receive them.

Uganda already hosts Africa’s largest refugee population, with over 1.7 million refugees as of 2025, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Many have fled conflict and instability in Sudan, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

While the UN has praised Uganda’s open-door refugee policy, rights advocates are raising fresh concerns about the implications of this new agreement.

Critics say such deportation deals may violate international law by exposing migrants to potential torture, abduction, or persecution especially when returned to third countries with limited resources or fragile institutions.

The US has already come under scrutiny for similar arrangements, including a recent case where eight migrant criminals were deported to South Sudan, of which only one was a South Sudanese national. Despite legal battles in US courts, South Sudan accepted custody of the group.

Earlier this month, Rwanda also confirmed it would accept up to 250 migrants under a US-backed plan. Details of that agreement remain scarce.

Although the Trump administration defends these arrangements as necessary due to the refusal of some countries to repatriate their citizens, human rights organisations continue to voice strong opposition.

“These deportations may place people at severe risk,” one rights advocate warned, citing previous cases where migrants ended up detained in harsh conditions before being returned to unstable environments.

For now, both Washington and Kampala are reportedly finalizing how the Uganda agreement will be implemented.

2027: Obi-Atiku Alliance Could Threaten Our Victory, APC Chieftain Warns

A senior figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dominic Alancha, has raised concerns over a potential alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Anambra Governor Peter Obi, warning that such a coalition could seriously weaken the APC’s chances in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Alancha said both leaders, if united under a single ticket, could command over 13 to 14 million votes, potentially surpassing the APC’s performance in 2023.

“If Atiku and Obi reach a consensus and run together, it will deplete our support base significantly,” Alancha said.

“They already control a large share of the electorate.”

The warning comes after a wave of high-profile opposition leaders; Atiku, Obi, David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, and others adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in July as their joint political platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu.

The coalition was formed amid growing public dissatisfaction over economic issues, including inflation and a high cost of living.

Together, Obi and Atiku polled over 12 million votes in the 2023 elections, more than four million above Tinubu’s official tally.

Alancha, who also leads the Northern Ethnic Nationality Forum (NENF), advised President Tinubu to reconsider the controversial Muslim-Muslim ticket used in 2023, arguing it could further alienate northern Christians and cost the party vital votes in a more competitive 2027 race.

“If the same religious ticket is retained, it gives the opposition a strong advantage. The coalition is not sleeping, they’re working hard,” he said.

He stressed that early preparation is key, warning that the calm atmosphere now may not last once campaigns heat up.

The APC chieftain also commented on growing speculation that former President Goodluck Jonathan might stage a political comeback in 2027.

Though Jonathan has not declared any intention to run, reports suggest quiet lobbying within the PDP and parts of the North calling for his return.

“Jonathan is around the corner. Some northern groups are forming almost a cult-like movement pushing for his return,” Alancha claimed.

He cautioned that if Jonathan joins the race alongside Atiku and Obi, the APC would struggle to justify a continued reliance on the 2023 strategy.

“In a three-horse race featuring Jonathan, Atiku, and Obi, the APC must present a more balanced ticket if it wants to remain viable,” he said.

While some view Jonathan’s possible return as a stabilizing force, critics believe it could deepen the PDP’s internal crisis, especially with recent defections and leadership crisis.

Abduction Foiled As Bus Driver Runs Over Kidnapper, Injures Two Others

A kidnapping attempt along the Hayin-Dam road in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State was thwarted on Sunday evening when two alert bus drivers used their vehicles to knock down suspected kidnappers while escaping an ambush.

The incident occurred around 6:00 pm at Sabon-Kurutu junction, as the buses were returning from the Katari market to Hayin-Dam village.

According to eyewitness Malam Ahmadu Muazu, the drivers acted swiftly when a group of armed bandits suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on the buses.

In a bold move to save their passengers, both drivers rammed their vehicles into the attackers before fleeing the scene.

“The driver of the first bus hit one of the gunmen and sped off. The second bus was also attacked, but its driver managed to strike another bandit before escaping,” Muazu said.

A female passenger on the first bus was shot during the crossfire and was rushed to a hospital in Katari, where she is currently receiving treatment.

Fortunately, no passengers were abducted, and all managed to escape the scene, thanks to the quick response and bravery of the two drivers.

At the time of this report, attempts to reach ASP Hassan Mansur, the spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, were unsuccessful.

Messages sent to his phone had not been returned.

15 Farmers Killed In Fresh Plateau Attack, Thousands Displaced

At least 15 farmers have been killed following a coordinated attack on seven villages in Chakfem district of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The affected communities; Manden, Jibin, Tim, Jiblang, Koppang, Mihdihin, and Jilem were overrun on Monday evening, between 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm, by gunmen who reportedly burned homes, looted livestock, and left scores injured. Over 3,000 residents were forced to flee.

Several homes were destroyed, including the traditional ruler’s residence and official vehicle.

Many of the victims were women and children.

Survivors are receiving treatment at COCIN Hospital, Mwar-Chakfem.

The National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), Mr. Bulus Dabit, confirmed the incident and blamed delayed security response on the difficult terrain and inaccessibility of the communities.

“Security forces only reached the scene the next day, by which time the attackers had fled,” he said.

Dabit warned that if urgent action isn’t taken, remote communities like theirs face the threat of total annihilation.

Survivors described a night of terror and helplessness:

HRH Da Raymond Yombish, whose palace was razed, said:

“I managed to escape, but they burned my official Jeep. The attackers came in large numbers.”

Another survivor, Sohotden Emmanuel, said:

“We were ambushed. I ran to a nearby farm to hide. Only divine intervention saved us.”

Mr. Dabit alleged that Fulani militants were behind the attacks, saying previous attempts to invade the communities had failed until now.

He claimed the attackers used four different routes into Mangu, aiming to reach the heart of the Mwaghavul territory.

In response, MACBAN Plateau Chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, denied any involvement, saying:

“We condemn the attack and sympathize with the victims. The accusation is unfounded. We urge a thorough investigation.”

Security agencies have not yet commented. Attempts to reach Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) spokesperson Major Samson Zhakom were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, Bokkos LGA continues to suffer similar attacks. At a press briefing in Jos, the Bokkos Concerned Youth group said over 10 communities have been overtaken by armed groups, with 61 others attacked in recent months.

Spokesperson Mr. Dapet Chris Ortega called for urgent military intervention:

“Whole families have been wiped out. The frequency and scale of these attacks are unbearable.”

He also accused suspected Fulani attackers of being responsible, an allegation again rejected by MACBAN.

The group urged the federal government to equip local communities with tools to defend themselves, engage stakeholders to tackle root causes of violence and invest in economic development and education in affected areas.
