APC Unfazed By Opposition Coalition, Says Tinubu Is Delivering On His Mandate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence in its leadership and dismissed concerns over the emergence of an opposition coalition spearheaded by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, emphasized that President Bola Tinubu is actively addressing national issues in a way no previous leader has, and as such, the party sees no threat from any political alliance.

Speaking during an interview with Arise TV, Morka defended the president’s actions and reiterated the party’s stance.

“The All Progressives Congress is not jittery; we have no reason to be jittery at all.
We are not jittery because the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who is the leader of our party, is doing exactly what Nigerians elected him to do,” he stated.

According to Morka, Tinubu has taken bold steps to tackle longstanding problems in the country, showing a level of resolve unmatched by his predecessors.

“He summoned the political will, which no other president has done before him, to confront those challenges,” he said.

He added that the APC remains unconcerned by the formation of any political coalition, regardless of its platform or name.

“We’re not concerned about any kind of coalition, whether under the ADC or under ADA or any other nomenclature that they choose,” Morka said.

You’re In PDP, But We’re Scared Of You – Keyamo Hails Mbah At Enugu Air Launch

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on Monday praised Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, as one of the most effective leaders in the country, despite belonging to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking at the official inauguration of Enugu Air in the state capital, Keyamo applauded Mbah’s leadership and transformative achievements.

“I want to mirror what the president said the other day to commission project. Dr Peter Mbah, you’re in PDP, but we’re scared of you.”

“The way you’re going, we don’t know what will happen, and we don’t know how to drop a scheme to defeat you, but we will be planning,” Keyamo said.

He continued with high praise for the governor’s performance, urging that political affiliations should not hinder recognition of good governance.

“Beyond party line, we should not be afraid to say it. You have a progressive spirit, you’ve done well for Enugu State, and you’re one of the best performing governors,” the minister said.

Turning to the newly launched airline, Keyamo called for professionalism and efficiency, warning against political meddling or bureaucratic delays that could derail its progress.

“What is left to advise is, do not let Enugu Air go the way of Nigerian Airways. Run it professionally and do not let bureaucracy kill Enugu Air. Be prompt in your departure and arrival.”

Enugu Air will begin operations with a fleet of three Embraer aircraft from the E170 and E190 series chosen for their fuel efficiency, passenger comfort, and suitability for short and medium-haul routes.

The airline’s inaugural network will include a triangular route connecting Enugu, Abuja, and Lagos, with further plans to expand to cities like Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, and Kano, and eventually to international destinations.

The launch of Enugu Air is part of Governor Mbah’s broader vision to position the state as a hub for regional commerce, tourism, and economic innovation.

Enugu Air Launches Domestic Flight Operations, Becomes Nigeria’s Third State-Owned Airline

Enugu State has officially joined the growing list of Nigerian states operating a commercial airline, following the formal launch of Enugu Air on Monday.

With this development, Enugu becomes the third state in the country to venture into the aviation industry.

The newly established carrier marked its debut with a ceremonial flight that landed at the newly upgraded international wing of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, from Lagos.

The flight was piloted by Enugu-born Captain Kelechi Ossai and featured one of the airline’s three Embraer jets, which comprise its initial fleet.

The entry of Enugu Air into the market positions it as the latest participant in Nigeria’s expanding aviation sector, aiming to boost both domestic and regional connectivity.

While commissioning the airline, Nigeria’s Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, assured of the federal government’s backing to ensure the airline’s long-term success.

“Approvals for regional routes out of Enugu are already in progress,” Keyamo stated. He also addressed the government’s decision to concession the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, noting that “it is a necessity.”

For Governor Peter Mbah, the unveiling of Enugu Air represents more than a transport milestone, it is a strategic investment in the state’s economic transformation.

“The launch of Enugu Air is not just another infrastructure project, but a bold economic enabler,” Mbah declared.

He explained that operations would initially begin with a triangular route connecting Enugu, Abuja, and Lagos, with future expansion planned to include cities like Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, and Kano.

There are also long-term plans to introduce international destinations, further integrating Enugu into global air traffic routes.

Launch Of Enugu Air ‘A Historic Milestone’ – Nkanu West Council Chairman Hon. Ogbodo Hails Gov. Mbah

The Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Ogbodo, has commended Governor Peter Mbah for the strategic launch of the Enugu Air initiative, describing it as a bold step toward transforming the infrastructure landscape of the South-East and redefining the identity of Enugu State.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the unveiling ceremony held at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu on Monday, Hon. Ogbodo said the launch of the state-owned airline represents a historic milestone that aligns with Governor Mbah’s vision of turning Enugu into a hub for commerce, innovation, and regional connectivity.

“This is not just about an airline; this is about legacy, vision, and economic emancipation. Enugu Air will boost regional infrastructure, create jobs, attract investments, and ultimately redefine how Enugu is perceived both within Nigeria and across West Africa,” Ogbodo said.

He added that the initiative would serve as a catalyst for economic growth by enhancing logistics, tourism, and business travel for people within the South-East and beyond.

Ogbodo praised the governor for fulfilling a campaign promise that many had previously considered too ambitious.

“Governor Mbah has proven again that he is not here to make excuses but to deliver results. With this project, we are looking at improved air connectivity, reduced cost of doing business, and renewed investor confidence in our region,” he stated.

The council boss further noted that local governments stand to benefit directly from the economic ripple effects of the airline, citing the potential for increased revenue, local hiring, and the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the transport and hospitality sectors.

“We expect this initiative to stimulate development in tourism, trade, agriculture, and even education, as Enugu becomes more accessible. The multiplier effects will touch every ward and community,” Ogbodo added.

DAILY GAZETTE reports that Enugu Air is one of the flagship projects of Governor Mbah’s administration, designed to accelerate his broader economic modernization agenda.

In his remarks at the unveiling, Governor Peter Mbah stated that the airline was born out of a desire to “connect the people, create prosperity, and open up Enugu to the world.”

Poll Shows Growing Distrust In Tinubu Govt, Public Institutions

A new survey conducted by the Africa Polling Institute (API) has revealed a sharp decline in public confidence in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria’s major public institutions.

According to the Nigeria Social Cohesion Survey 2025, 83% of Nigerians said they have “little or no trust” in the current federal government.

The sentiment is nearly the same for the legislative arm, with 82% expressing a lack of trust in the National Assembly, under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

The judiciary did not fare much better in the public’s eye.

The report showed that 79% of Nigerians similarly expressed “little or no trust” in the judicial system, referencing both the immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kayode Ariwoola, and the current CJN, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

In comparison with data from previous editions of the survey conducted in 2019, 2021, and 2022, this year’s findings reflect the lowest levels of citizen trust recorded to date.

The report was officially unveiled over the weekend in Abuja and highlighted a troubling erosion of social cohesion across the country.

The Social Cohesion Index stood at 46.8%, signifying a fragile sense of unity among Nigerians.

The API, with support from the Ford Foundation, carried out the survey between January and February 2025, interviewing 5,465 Nigerians aged 15 and above through face-to-face household interviews.

The sample covered all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, ensuring proportional representation across all senatorial districts.

Interviews were conducted in five major languages: English, Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba.

One of the standout findings was a rising sense of solidarity among Nigerians not based on national pride or unity of purpose, but rather a shared struggle against worsening economic conditions.

The report noted that “citizens constantly allude to economic hardship, high costs of transport, and goods and services, as well as the lack of economic prosperity under the Tinubu economy.”

Among other key findings, 53% of Nigerians said they now “feel disappointed in Nigeria.”

Former SGF, Babachir Lawal Resigns From APC, Joins Coalition To Challenge Tinubu In 2027

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) under President Muhammadu Buhari, Babachir Lawal, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect.

Lawal, a vocal critic of the current administration, announced his resignation in a letter dated June 29, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of his APC ward, Bangshika Ward, Hong Local Government Area, in Adamawa State.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the All Progressive Congress,” Lawal stated in the letter.

“In due course, I will make public my current political affiliations where I plan to join other compatriots to work towards making Nigeria a better living place for all its citizens. This resignation takes immediate effect. Please, remain blessed and extend my warm regards to other members of your party.”

Lawal is now a key member of an emerging political coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu and displace the ruling APC in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The coalition, which includes heavyweight politicians such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, has chosen the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform going forward.

Speaking to DAILY GAZETTE, Lawal revealed that the coalition had decided against forming a brand-new political party.

“We’ve concluded that we are joining an existing party. Critical members have already resigned to make room for new leadership,” he explained.

On why the coalition abandoned efforts to register a new political platform, Lawal cited legal complications and internal resistance within some smaller parties.

“Some parties had court cases, leadership tussles, or were simply unwilling to make room for us. But we’ve found one that is both welcoming and viable,” he noted.

Lawal also responded to efforts by Dr. Usman Ardo, a former ally, who is leading a splinter group in pursuit of registering a new party called the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

“Ardo has been name-dropping without authorisation. While we can’t stop him from trying to register a party, we’re focused on what is realistic. There’s simply not enough time to register and stabilise a new party before the 2027 election campaigns begin,” he said.

Despite their backgrounds in the APC, Lawal insists the coalition is independent and distinct from any existing party structure.

“Many of us are former APC members,” he said.
“Atiku and (Peter) Obi are with us, but not as official emissaries of their current platforms. This is an independent initiative aimed at providing a genuine alternative for Nigerians.”

Elon Musk’s New Political Party ‘A Train Wreck’ – Trump Blows Hot

(FILES) (FILES) (COMBO) This combination of pictures created on August 12, 2024 shows, L-R, Tesla CEO Elon Musk speaking at the 27th annual Milken Institute Global Conference at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on May 6, 2024 and former US President and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump standing onstage during the last day of the 2024 Republican National Convention at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 18, 2024. US President Donald Trump said in remarks airing on February 9, 2025, that Musk, who is presiding over a purge of US government jobs, will help find "hundreds of billions of dollars of fraud" in federal agencies. Speaking in a Fox News interview set to air before the Super Bowl football championship, Trump said the American people "want me to find" waste and that Musk, the world's richest man and the leader of the president's cost-cutting efforts, has been "a great help" in rooting out unnecessary spending. President Donald Trump has lashed out at tech billionaire Elon Musk following the latter’s announcement of a new political party, calling the move “ridiculous” and labeling Musk a “train wreck” who has gone “off the rails.”

The sharp rebuke comes amid a growing rift between the two former allies, who had once worked closely during Trump’s first term. now-defunc

Musk, who previously headed the now-defunct Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), unveiled plans on Saturday to launch a third party named the “America Party,” aimed at challenging what he called the “one-party” status quo of U.S. politics.

Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One from his New Jersey golf club on Sunday, Trump dismissed the idea of a third party as unworkable.

“It’s always been a two-party system, and I think starting a third party just adds to confusion. Third parties have never worked. So he can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous,” the president said.

Musk and Trump’s relationship had soured in recent weeks following disagreements over Trump’s massive new tax-and-spending bill, which Musk publicly opposed.

The $2.7 trillion package, hailed by the administration as a game-changer for infrastructure and energy, was slammed by Musk as fiscally irresponsible and a burden on future generations.

Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize both Republicans and Democrats for reckless government spending, declaring:

“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.”

While Musk has yet to provide full details or confirm whether the America Party has been registered with electoral authorities, political analysts say the move could significantly disrupt Republican momentum ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Trump did not hold back. Posting on Truth Social during his flight, he wrote:

“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks.”

“The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats.” he said.

Trump also accused Musk of turning against him because the new spending bill cut subsidies for electric vehicles, a key source of revenue for Tesla, the automaker Musk leads.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent joined the fray, suggesting that Musk’s political ambitions were not shared by his business partners.

“I believe the boards of his companies would prefer he return his focus to running those companies, which he is better at than anyone,” Bessent told CNN.

Musk, who stepped down from DOGE in May, has since faced criticism for spreading himself too thin.

Tesla’s stock has wobbled, and company insiders reportedly worry about the impact of his political entanglements on its brand.

The pair’s once-strong relationship ended abruptly after a bizarre farewell ceremony at the White House, where Trump handed Musk a golden key to the building.

Musk appeared visibly bruised during the event, a moment widely shared online, and the two began trading barbs shortly after.

When asked Sunday whether he would ask for the symbolic key back, Trump declined to comment.

Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Dies At 90

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90.

A family source confirmed the monarch’s passing to Channels Television on Monday, noting that the revered traditional ruler died in the early hours of the day, just days after celebrating both his 90th birthday and the first anniversary of his coronation.

Oba Olakulehin was installed as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland on June 14, 2024, following the death of his predecessor, Oba Lekan Balogun.

His reign, though brief, was marked by reflections on legacy, tradition, and leadership.

Born on July 5, 1935, in Okugbaja village near Akanran in Ibadan North East Local Government Area of Oyo State, Olakulehin had just celebrated his milestone 90th birthday on Saturday, July 5, surrounded by family, friends, and well-wishers.

In a statement released last Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu congratulated the monarch on the twin celebrations of his birthday and coronation anniversary.

Describing Oba Olakulehin as a symbol of wisdom and cultural stewardship, the President praised his lifelong commitment to national development and Yoruba heritage.

Oba Olakulehin’s life journey was shaped by humble beginnings and broad experiences.

He began his education at St. James Primary School, Oke Akaran, and later studied at St. Peter’s Primary School, Aremo, with brief enrollment at an Islamic school in Odoiye.

After a short stint as a teacher in Ibadan, he pursued vocational training in printing and graphic arts at Yaba Technical Institute.

In 1970, he joined the Nigerian Army via the Direct Short Service Commission, serving in the Army Corps of Engineers.

Rising to the rank of Major, he held significant roles, including commanding maintenance regiments in Jos, Kaduna, and Lagos, before retiring in 1979.

Following his military career, Oba Olakulehin became a businessman and entrepreneur.

He founded FAKOL Nigeria Ltd, a construction company, alongside FAKOL Bakery and Olakunlehin Press, later renamed Solid Prints.

He also made his mark in politics. In 1992, he was elected to the House of Representatives under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), representing Ibadan South East Constituency. While in office, he chaired the House Committee on the Nigerian Army, bringing his military background to bear on national defense policy.

BRICS Nations Condemn Trump’s Tariffs, US-Israeli Strikes On Iran

Leaders of the BRICS bloc issued a joint rebuke on Sunday against the United States’ aggressive trade policies and recent military actions in Iran, in a summit that underscored growing friction between emerging powers and the administration of President Donald Trump.

The 11-nation coalition including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa criticized what it called the “unilateral and indiscriminate” use of trade tariffs, warning that such measures could destabilize the global economy.

Without directly naming the U.S president, the summit’s final communiqué voiced “serious concern about the rise of unilateral tariff actions,” describing them as a threat to multilateral cooperation and global trade.

President Trump swiftly responded via his Truth Social platform, warning:

“Any country aligning themselves with the anti-American policies of BRICS will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy.”

The remarks followed weeks of escalating tension, with Trump already threatening new import duties on allies and rivals if trade “deals” aren’t finalized by August 1.

In a rare show of unity, BRICS leaders also extended symbolic support to Iran, a new member since 2023, condemning recent U.S-Israeli military strikes on Iranian nuclear and military targets.

The bloc’s statement called for restraint and diplomacy, reinforcing its opposition to “violations of international sovereignty and the use of force without UN approval.”

While the declaration did not name the U.S. or Israel, the message was clear and significant given the political diversity within BRICS. Iran expressed “reservations” but ultimately endorsed the statement, Brazilian officials said.

The summit also called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the withdrawal of Israeli forces, a position welcomed by Hamas, which urged BRICS to increase pressure on Israel to end the siege on Gaza’s population.

However, internal divisions remained evident. Saudi Arabia, another recent BRICS entrant and a close U.S ally, did not attend Sunday’s session.

Diplomatic sources cited discomfort with the bloc’s stance on Israel and Iran.

Adding to the weakened optics of this year’s gathering were the absences of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Xi missed the summit for the first time in 12 years, while Putin wanted internationally over the Ukraine conflict participated remotely via video.

Despite these setbacks, Putin told the group that BRICS had emerged as a “central pillar” in global governance.

The summit also touched on the rise of artificial intelligence, calling for fair global regulations to prevent monopolization by wealthy nations.

The statement emphasized that AI development should benefit all countries, not just those with advanced tech industries.

The commercial AI space is currently dominated by U.S firms, though China and other BRICS members are fast advancing their capabilities.

We Are Yet To Receive Certified True Copy Of Court Judgment On Senator Natasha’s Suspension – Senate

The Nigerian Senate has said it is yet to receive the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Federal High Court ruling that nullified the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central.

The Senate’s response follows a ruling delivered on Friday, July 4, by Justice Binta Nyako, who described the six-month suspension of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan as excessive and ordered her reinstatement.

However, in a statement released on Sunday by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, the Senate’s spokesperson and Chairman of the Committee on Media and Public Affairs, the upper chamber said it acknowledged the ruling but could not act until it had been officially served with the court’s CTC.

“Since no party to the case has been officially served the enrolled order of the judgment, none can enforce any perceived order or relief,” Adaramodu stated.

He further clarified that although the Senate’s legal representatives were present at the court sitting, the full judgment was not delivered in open court.

“The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria acknowledges that judgment was delivered on 4th July 2025 by the Federal High Court, Abuja, in the suit instituted by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.”

“However, the Senate is yet to be served with the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the said judgment.”

“Our legal representatives, who were in attendance at the proceedings, have confirmed that the complete judgment was not read in open court.”

“Consequently, we have formally applied for the CTC to enable a thorough review and informed determination of the appropriate legal response, particularly in view of the uncertainty surrounding whether the court made any direct order nullifying the suspension of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan,” he said.

Adaramodu emphasized that the Senate would avoid taking any actions that could legally compromise its position until the CTC had been received and reviewed.

“Pending receipt and examination of the CTC, and acting on the advice of counsel, the Senate shall refrain from taking any steps that may prejudice its legal position.”

“The Senate remains committed to upholding the rule of law and will act strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria upon full clarification of the court’s pronouncements.”

“We urge the public to remain patient and assured of the Senate’s fidelity to due process.”
