2027: No Individual Or Party Can Defeat Tinubu –  Atiku’s Son Declares

Abba Atiku, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that no political party can defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

He made the announcement on Monday in Yola after collecting his APC membership registration card at Gwadabawa Ward, Yola North Local Government Area, Adamawa State.

“I want to make it very clear that nobody or any political party can stop President Bola Tinubu from returning to Aso Rock come 2027.

Nigerians have seen his good work; he is not a tribalist, he don’t make appointments based on religion or region, but his decisions are purely on merit,” Abba said.

He explained that his decision to join the APC was motivated by the current administration’s achievements in human and infrastructural development.

“The president needs your support to continue with the good work. We should mobilise more people and beyond party affiliations to support our president,” he added.

The APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Adamawa Central, Alhaji Isa Bagalti, who handed over the membership card to Abba, welcomed him to the party and said his defection had effectively ended speculation that the APC could lose the 2027 election.

Abba emphasized that he joined the party to contribute to what he described as the best economic and human reforms under President Tinubu’s leadership.

Coup: DHQ Confirms Plot To Topple President Tinubu, Says Indicted Officers Will Face Military Trial

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that investigations into alleged misconduct by some military officers uncovered claims of a plot to overthrow the government, with those indicted set to face military trial.

The DHQ made this known on Monday while providing an update on the arrest of 16 officers over acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations.

In October 2025, the military had announced the arrest of the officers, following reports that they were allegedly involved in secret meetings aimed at destabilising the government.

Sahara Reporters had reported on October 18 that the officers, ranging in rank from Captain to Brigadier General, were arrested by the Defence Intelligence Agency over the alleged plot, which was also linked to the cancellation of the October 1 Independence Day parade.

At the time, the then Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, dismissed the reports, saying they were intended to create tension and distrust among Nigerians, stressing that the issue was an internal disciplinary matter.

“The ongoing investigation involving the sixteen officers is a routine internal process aimed at ensuring discipline and professionalism are maintained within the ranks. An investigative panel has been duly constituted, and its findings will be made public,” the statement said.

Providing a fresh update on Monday, the new Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said a comprehensive investigation had now been concluded in line with established military procedures.

He said the findings revealed that some of the officers had cases to answer over allegations of plotting to overthrow the government, adding that the investigation report had been forwarded to the appropriate superior authority.

“The Defence Headquarters issued a press statement in October 2025 regarding the arrest of sixteen officers over acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria wishes to inform the general public that investigations into the matter have been concluded and the report forwarded to appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.

“The comprehensive investigation process, conducted in accordance with established military procedures, has carefully examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel.

“The findings have identified a number of the officers with allegations of plotting to overthrow the government, which is inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the AFN,” the statement read in part.

Uba disclosed that the officers indicted would be formally arraigned before relevant military judicial panels to face trial in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service regulations.

He emphasised that the process would ensure accountability while upholding fairness and due process, noting that the measures being taken were purely disciplinary.

“Accordingly, those with cases to answer will be formally arraigned before appropriate military judicial panels to face trial in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service regulations. This ensures accountability while upholding the principles of fairness and due process.

“The AFN reiterates that measures being taken are purely disciplinary and part of ongoing institutional mechanisms to preserve order, discipline, and operational effectiveness within the ranks.

“The Armed Forces remain resolute in maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, loyalty, and respect for constitutional authority,” Uba added.

2027: You Will Win, Ganduje Assures Yusuf Of Party Ticket As APC Welcomes Kano Governor

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has assured Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, of victory in the 2027 governorship election, declaring that all aspirants within the party have agreed to support his second-term ambition.

Ganduje gave the assurance in Kano on Monday while formally welcoming Yusuf back into the APC, describing the governor’s return as a major boost for the party in the state.

“You will win your second term in 2027. We have spoken with all aspirants, and they have agreed to support you,” Ganduje said.

Governor Yusuf officially rejoined the APC on Monday, January 26, 2026, after resigning from the New Nigeria Peoples Party last week.

He had previously been a member of the APC between 2014 and 2018 before moving to other political platforms.

In his resignation letter to the chairman of the NNPP in Diso-Chiranchi Ward, Gwale Local Government Area, effective January 23, 2026, Yusuf cited persistent internal crises and the need to protect the broader interests of the people as reasons for leaving the party.

Describing Yusuf’s return as a homecoming, Ganduje noted that the governor was part of the APC during its formative years but left due to political differences.

“This is a memorable and historic occasion. Your Excellency, you are welcome back home to the APC,” he said.

The former Kano governor further described Yusuf as a progressive politician whose leadership style aligns with the ideology of the APC, adding that his return strengthens the party’s political direction in the state.

“We know you as a progressive politician by your perception, utterances, and disposition. APC is complete with you,” Ganduje stated.

He also declared Yusuf as the leader of the APC in Kano State, explaining that party tradition recognises serving governors as leaders of the party in their respective states.

“In APC, all serving governors are leaders of the party in their states. Therefore, you are the leader of the APC in Kano State,” he said.

Ganduje assured the governor of equal treatment within the party and expressed confidence that the APC would record sweeping victories in future elections, including the 2027 presidential poll.

“As you are coming in, we assure you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will also win in 2027. APC will stand firmly with you,” he added.

The defection of Governor Yusuf to the APC has triggered significant political realignments in Kano State, with 22 state lawmakers, eight members of the House of Representatives, all 44 local government chairmen, and several party members defecting alongside him.

Ebonyi LG Polls: Umahi’s Son, Osborne, Wins APC Chairmanship Ticket For Ohaozara

Osborne Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket ahead of the Ohaozara Local Government chairmanship election in Ebonyi State.

Osborne, who was the sole aspirant on the party’s platform, polled all 55 votes cast by delegates during the APC primary election held at Obiozara Primary School in Uburu.

The Deputy State Chairman of the party, Alphonsus Nwali, who served as chairman of the electoral committee, officially declared him the winner.

Nwali commended the people of Ohaozara for their continued support for the APC in previous national and state elections, assuring them of the party’s commitment to transparency and leadership that delivers development.

In his acceptance speech, Osborne Umahi pledged loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru.

He promised to prioritise massive road infrastructure development, particularly roads linking farmlands to markets to ease the evacuation of agricultural produce.

He also outlined plans to establish agricultural clusters and introduce youth empowerment programmes aimed at job creation across the local government area.

Osborne thanked Governor Nwifuru for his support and nomination, assuring residents that his administration would be focused on inclusive development and effective leadership.

He further called on people of the South-East to continue to support President Tinubu, noting that the president had taken steps to address issues of marginalisation that previously fueled agitation in the region.

Speaking at the event, a Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the primary election, describing it as peaceful, free, and fair.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Housing, Francis Ori, described Osborne Umahi as a vibrant and capable leader who would perform well if elected.

As Gov. Mbah Inaugurates New High Court Complex, Commences Official Virtual Proceedings: The Expectations Of Ndi-Enugu

Opinion of Dr. Malachy Chuma Ochie

The inauguration today of a new High Court Complex alongside the formal commencement of Virtual Court Proceedings by Governor Peter Mbah marks another decisive milestone in Enugu State’s unfolding governance renaissance.

It is a bold affirmation that this administration clearly understands that justice delayed is not only justice denied, but also a structural burden on development, security, and public confidence in the state.

This dual intervention, modern judicial infrastructure combined with the deployment of digital processes, signals a conscious break from an era defined by congestion, manual inefficiencies, and procedural delays.

By strengthening the physical foundations of justice while simultaneously integrating technology into court practice, the Mbah administration is repositioning the judiciary to meet the demands of a fast-changing, 21st-century society.

For Ndi-Enugu, the significance of this moment goes far beyond bricks, mortar, and digital screens.

It represents renewed hope: hope that the familiar frustrations of endless adjournments, misplaced case files, and overcrowded courtrooms will gradually yield to a system marked by speed, order, and transparency.

The new High Court Complex speaks to dignity and capacity, while virtual proceedings promise flexibility and efficiency.

In a state where commercial activity is expanding and social interactions are becoming increasingly complex, the need for timely and effective dispute resolution has never been more critical.

A judiciary supported by modern facilities and enhanced by virtual proceedings is better equipped to protect rights, enforce contracts, and sustain the confidence of investors and ordinary citizens alike.

Justice, in this context, becomes an enabler of growth rather than a bottleneck.

Ndi-Enugu therefore commend Governor Peter Mbah for recognizing that judicial reform is central to his broader development agenda.

Roads, schools, hospitals, and investments can only flourish in an environment where the rule of law is efficient, accessible, and predictable.

The inauguration of a new High Court Complex, complemented by virtual proceedings, aligns seamlessly with this administration’s ethos of performance, innovation, and measurable outcomes.

It reflects a governor who conceives governance not as rhetoric, but as systems that endure beyond personalities and political cycles.

However, with this commendable progress come clear expectations from Ndi-Enugu. First is inclusiveness.

Virtual proceedings must not remain confined to select courts or elite litigants. Over time, judicial divisions outside the urban centres, as well as lower courts where feasible, should be progressively integrated.

Technology must be used to close access gaps, not widen them. Justice must remain blind not only to status, but also to geography.
Secondly, the people expect capacity building and sustainability.

Judges, magistrates, registrars, lawyers, and court staff must receive continuous training to effectively manage and utilize virtual processes.

Equally critical is the provision of reliable infrastructure, such as stable power supply, secure data management systems, and dependable internet connectivity.

Ndi-Enugu expect virtual proceedings that function consistently, not reforms undermined by technical failures or poor maintenance.

Ultimately, the commissioning of a new High Court Complex and the commencement of virtual proceedings have raised the bar of governance in Enugu State.

They reinforce public confidence in a government that is willing to invest in institutions and modernize critical sectors of public life.

Ndi-Enugu applaud Governor Peter Mbah for this forward-looking stride, even as they look ahead with cautious optimism.

The expectation is clear: that these reforms will translate into faster justice delivery, reduced opportunities for corruption, stronger institutions, and a judiciary that truly serves the people.

If faithfully implemented and sustained, this moment may well stand as one of the defining legacies of the Mbah administration.

2027: Atiku Still No Match For Tinubu, Even With Obi, Says Culture Minister Musawa

The Minister of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has argued that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would be unable to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election, even if he runs on a joint ticket with former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.

Musawa made the assertion during a discussion aired on TheMicon Podcast and shared on Instagram on Saturday.

While acknowledging Atiku as a strong political figure, she maintained that he lacks the capacity to unseat the ruling party in the next presidential contest.

According to her, Atiku remains a formidable opponent but does not pose a serious threat to the All Progressives Congress in 2027.

She added that a merger between Atiku and Obi would not significantly improve the opposition’s chances.

Musawa further noted that such a coalition could trigger internal backlash, particularly among Obi’s supporters, many of whom may resist seeing him play a secondary role on a joint ticket.

She explained that a scenario in which Obi emerges as a vice-presidential candidate could alienate a large segment of his base, while reversing the roles, with Obi as presidential candidate, would, in her view, weaken the opposition even further.

Blame FG For Impact Of Strike On Nigeria’s Healthcare System, JOHESU Tells Nigerians

This photo shows beds at Yobe State Specialist hospital in Damaturu on September 4, 2024. - At least 81 people died and several were missing after an attack by suspected Boko Haram jihadists in Nigeria's northeastern Yobe State, local officials told AFP on September 3, 2024. "Around 150 suspected Boko Haram terrorists armed with rifles and RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades) attacked Mafa ward on more than 50 motorcycles around 1600 hours on Sunday," said Abdulkarim Dungus, a Yobe state police spokesman. The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has asked Nigerians to hold the Federal Government accountable for the hardship being experienced across public health facilities due to the ongoing strike by its members.

The union said the industrial action is the result of the government’s failure to implement its long-standing demand for the adjustment of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), which remains unresolved despite several engagements with authorities.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, JOHESU National Secretary, Martin Egbanubi, said the union was fully aware of the suffering caused by the strike but insisted that responsibility rests with the government.

Egbanubi stated that health workers did not embark on the strike for personal gain, adding that the action had also taken a toll on union members, including reported casualties within the workforce.

He disclosed that a member of the union recently died at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.

He appealed to Nigerians, particularly those affected by the disruption of public healthcare services, to prevail on the Federal Government to address the union’s demand, stressing that the strike could be suspended immediately once the issue is resolved.

According to him, JOHESU had engaged the government repeatedly and even suspended a previous strike in June 2023 following assurances by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that relevant ministries, departments and agencies would be directed to act.

He noted that despite reminders and formal communication to the President, no concrete action has been taken.

The union recalled that it declared an indefinite strike in November 2025 after a series of ultimatums expired without a meaningful response from the government.

JOHESU said the failure to implement the agreed salary adjustment left health workers with no option but to resume industrial action.

Meanwhile, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has thrown its weight behind the striking health workers, condemning the Federal Government’s decision to enforce a “No Work, No Pay” policy and halt the salaries of union members through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

The TUC described the move as an attempt to intimidate health workers and warned that it undermines ongoing negotiations.

The congress accused the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of acting unilaterally and disregarding established industrial relations principles.

As the strike continues, public hospitals across the country remain largely shut, leaving many Nigerians, especially those unable to afford private healthcare, without access to essential medical services.
