Mass Deportations, Pardons For Capitol Rioters, Border Crackdown: Trump’s Day 1 Agenda

Donald Trump’s proposed actions for his first day back in office reveal a sweeping and controversial agenda, centered on mass deportations, rolling back Biden-era policies, and pardoning those involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

The president elect, aims to implement drastic measures immediately upon taking office.

Trump has made it clear that his first day would be an ambitious one, stating that he would act “like a dictator, except for Day 1.”

His plans include starting the deportation of migrants who entered the country illegally, reversing many of the Biden administration’s policies on immigration, and firing thousands of federal employees he believes are part of a “deep state” conspiracy against him.

A major part of his first-day agenda involves granting pardons to individuals convicted of crimes related to the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Trump has repeatedly expressed admiration for those involved in the violent insurrection, calling them “unbelievable patriots.”

In fact, he has promised to pardon over 1,500 individuals who participated in the riot, despite criticism that such actions would send a dangerous message about accountability for violent extremism.

Trump’s statements on immigration are equally firm.

He reiterated his intent to “close the border” and reinstate his “drill, drill, drill” policy for energy production, a stance he’s emphasized throughout his campaign.

These moves would echo the aggressive immigration policies he pursued during his first term, which included building a border wall and enacting strict deportation measures.

While Trump has stated that he would immediately seek to fire Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is leading federal investigations into his actions surrounding the 2020 election and classified documents, his options are more constrained when it comes to his state conviction in New York.

Since presidential pardons only apply to federal crimes, Trump would not be able to pardon himself for state-level charges, though he might explore other avenues to avoid prison time.

The former president’s promise to issue pardons for those involved in the January 6th Capitol attack has raised alarms among legal experts and critics, who argue that such actions would further undermine the rule of law.

Trump’s characterization of the January 6 rioters as patriots stands in stark contrast to the assessments of many judges and prosecutors, who have condemned the violent assault on the Capitol as a direct attack on the democratic process.

Trump’s first-day plans are likely to ignite fierce debate on the role of the presidency, executive power, and accountability in the aftermath of the Capitol insurrection.

Enugu Court Remands Suspect Over Alleged Murder of 11-Year-Old Houseboy

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Enugu East has remanded a 47-year-old man, Mr. Anthony Onyeukwu, in connection with the death of an 11-year-old houseboy, Goodluck John.

This development comes as part of the Enugu State Government’s ongoing efforts to combat child abuse.

According to Mrs. Ngozi Enih, the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development in Enugu, Onyeukwu was arrested after a tip-off from a whistle-blower linked the child’s death to suspected abuse at the hands of the family where Goodluck had worked.

Advertorial

The young boy, who had been living as a houseboy in the home of the accused, was reportedly buried in his native Abia State without any formal report to the authorities.

While Onyeukwu claimed that Goodluck had died from an illness at Park Lane Hospital, Enugu, investigations revealed that there was no record of the boy being admitted or his body being deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Calista Ifeanyi, presented the charges against Onyeukwu to the Chief Magistrate, Ngozi Edeh Anih.

The charges indicated that the suspect unlawfully killed Goodluck on October 15, 2024, at his residence in Loma Linda Extension, Enugu. This act, according to the charge sheet, violated Section 274(1) of the Criminal Code of Enugu State.

After hearing the charges, the Chief Magistrate ordered the remand of Onyeukwu in Enugu Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to November 20, 2024, pending a report from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Meanwhile, the office of Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, wife of the Governor of Enugu State, issued a strong warning against any form of child abuse, stating that perpetrators would face the full force of the law.

TCN Calls For Immediate Action As Vandals Attack Lokoja-Gwagwalada Transmission Line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has raised alarm over the increasing wave of vandalism targeting the country’s power infrastructure, following a recent attack on the 330kV Lokoja-Gwagwalada transmission line.

This latest act of sabotage comes amid ongoing efforts to restore power to areas affected by the earlier vandalism of the 330kV Shiroro-Kaduna lines.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company revealed that the attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday, November 9, 2024.

Vandals damaged transmission towers T306, T307, and T308 along the line, causing significant disruption to the power supply.

“On Saturday morning, TCN engineers attempted to re-energize the 330kV Lokoja-Gwagwalada transmission line, but the line tripped. After unsuccessful efforts to restore power, TCN linesmen were dispatched for a fault inspection,” the statement explained.

“Upon arrival, it was discovered that transmission towers T306, T307, and T308 had been vandalized, halting bulk power transmission.”

The company also reported the theft of two spans of aluminum conductors from the line, which has further delayed the restoration process.

Although the Lokoja-Gwagwalada line is a double-circuit transmission line, with power still being supplied through line two, TCN is now working to replace the stolen conductors.

This attack is part of a troubling pattern of vandalism targeting Nigeria’s national power grid.

TCN highlighted previous incidents of similar attacks in the Gwagwalada area, including damage to the Gwagwalada-Kukuwaba-Apo line in December 2023 and the Gwagwalada-Katampe line in February 2024.

The company expressed deep concern over the growing trend of vandalism, which it said has become a major threat to the stability and expansion of Nigeria’s power transmission network.

“Vandalism of power installations severely hampers our ability to provide reliable electricity and to expand the national grid,” the statement continued.

In response, TCN is calling on local communities and security agencies to collaborate in combating these criminal acts.

“We appeal to residents of communities hosting transmission lines and towers to join forces with TCN and security operatives to curb this menace. These acts of vandalism are a disservice to everyone and undermine our collective efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s power infrastructure,” the statement concluded.

Fubara Explains Why God Allowed Rivers Political Crisis

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has shared his belief that the ongoing political crisis in the state is part of God’s divine plan to perfect His purpose of granting the state political freedom and fostering economic growth.

Speaking at a Thanksgiving service on Sunday, Fubara expressed confidence that, despite the challenges, God’s involvement in the state’s affairs was strengthening his administration rather than weakening it.

The service, which took place at the Shepard’s Hill Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Mgbuoba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, celebrated the appointment of His Royal Majesty, Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, as Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council.

During the event, Governor Fubara was presented with copies of the Holy Bible by the church leadership.

Fubara shared his perspective on the political turbulence in the state, saying, “I also believe that what you are calling trouble is not trouble to me. I see it as God’s purpose for a new direction for our State.”

He added that, rather than feeling overwhelmed, his government had grown stronger and more determined in the face of adversity: “He has taken us higher, right from the first day, which is why, rather than getting weak, we are getting stronger and bolder everyday.”

The governor expressed unwavering commitment to his leadership, attributing his confidence to his faith in God.

“We want to finish our work, and our story will be those who led with the fear of God. We might not be perfect in everything, but in the end, there should be a reason why the angels should not allow our bodies to be taken by the devil,” Fubara stated.

He further underscored the significance of thanksgiving, describing it as a source of divine assurance and guidance

“Thanksgiving brings assurance of abiding presence, and offers a clearer picture of what pathway to navigate through any situation.” Fubara also praised Eze Wodo’s energetic display of gratitude, likening it to the biblical story of King David, who danced before God in joy and humility.

“It is one of the credits that made God to love King David so much. He glorified God in a special way. He was not ashamed, and God loved him,” Fubara said, expressing admiration for the royal father’s continued reverence for God despite his age and status.

The governor pledged his ongoing support for the church’s mission, acknowledging the power of prayer in guiding his administration

“The secret of our administration is just one thing: your prayers. The quiet and secret prayers that you give for us in your closets count. I can tell you, there is no prayer that God does not answer. It is like depositing money in the bank.”

In a gesture of goodwill, Governor Fubara donated ₦100 million to the church in support of their evangelistic efforts, a contribution intended as a memorial in honor of Eze Chike Worlu Wodo.

The Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Eze Wodo, who thanked God for leading him through numerous life victories, also expressed gratitude to Governor Fubara for his support and the appointment.

“Since my birth 78 years ago, God has led me through one victory to another amidst the challenges of life,” he said, pledging his continued support for the governor’s administration.

Pastor David Adewuye, who delivered the sermon titled “We are ambassadors for Christ,” emphasized the importance of salvation and yielding to the grace of Jesus Christ as the foundation for living a victorious life.

He explained that only those who embrace Christ can truly understand their divine purpose and experience the lasting triumphs that come with it.

Trump Calls On Republicans To Help Pay Off Kamala Harris’ $20 Million Campaign Debt

Donald Trump has called on the Republican Party to contribute to the Democratic Party’s financial recovery, particularly to help Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign pay off its $20 million debt.

In a post on social media platform X on Sunday, Trump expressed surprise at the Democrats’ financial struggles despite their fundraising success in the 2020 Presidential Election.

Trump pointed out that, while the Democrats raised record amounts of money during the last election cycle, they were now facing significant financial pressure, with vendors and creditors squeezing them for payment.

He said that, given the Democrats’ current predicament, Republicans should consider helping out for the sake of unity and the country.

“I am very surprised that the Democrats, who fought a hard and valiant fight in the 2020 Presidential Election, raising a record amount of money, didn’t have lots of $’s left over,” Trump wrote.

“Now they are being squeezed by vendors and others. Whatever we can do to help them during this difficult period, I would strongly recommend we, as a Party and for the sake of desperately needed UNITY, do.”

Trump also emphasized that Republicans had plenty of funds left over from their campaign, noting that their greatest asset, “Earned Media,” was cost-effective compared to other campaign expenses.

He ended his post with a call to continue advancing his political agenda: “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Despite raising over $1 billion in less than four months following Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris’ campaign ended in significant debt after she lost to Trump.

Controversial Rulings: Some Judges Are Tarnishing The Reputation Of The Judiciary, Says CJN

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has expressed concerns that some judges are tarnishing the reputation of the judiciary.

Speaking at a public discourse on ‘Ethics, Morality, and the Law’, she acknowledged the negative impact of controversial rulings, particularly in cases involving political tensions in states like Kano and Rivers.

Justice Kekere-Ekun emphasized, however, that the Nigerian judiciary is home to many dedicated, ethical, and capable judges.

While highlighting the professional integrity of most members of the bench, she also cautioned that judges must always be mindful of their individual accountability—both to society and to their moral and spiritual convictions.

In her address, the CJN pointed out that the judiciary must be aware of the perspective of ordinary citizens, who judge the legal system not only by its legal outcomes but also by how well it aligns with society’s ethical and moral values.

She reminded the legal community that justice is deeply rooted in the values of the Abrahamic faiths—Islam and Christianity—which both emphasize morality, integrity, and righteousness.

Kekere-Ekun also stressed the importance of lawyers in the justice system. She noted that legal practitioners play a unique role, often balancing the demands of law, ethics, and morality.

Lawyers, as key players in the justice system, are tasked with not just upholding legal standards but also ensuring their actions reflect societal ethical norms.

The degree to which this balance is achieved, she noted, significantly impacts public trust in the judiciary.

She concluded by acknowledging that while many judges are dedicated and hardworking, a few are still giving the judiciary a bad name.

The CJN’s comments were made during an event organized by the Movement for Islamic Culture and Awareness (MICA), which celebrated its 30th anniversary and the elevation of Justice Habeeb Adewale Abiru to the Supreme Court.

Fubara To Present 2025 Budget To Oko-Jumbo Led Rivers Assembly

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced plans to present the state’s 2025 budget to the State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo.

The governor expressed his commitment to continued collaboration between the executive and legislative branches, noting the positive working relationship that has facilitated the swift passage of executive bills and the smooth screening of nominees.

Fubara made this announcement during the commissioning of two modern community town halls and the launch of a scholarship and empowerment programme in Akiama and Aganya communities, located in Bonny Local Government Area, on Saturday.

The event was attended by key state officials, including the Speaker, Oko-Jumbo, and was highlighted in a statement issued from Port Harcourt by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi.

In his address, which was delivered by his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, Governor Fubara extended congratulations to the Speaker, commending him for his role in facilitating the government’s agenda.

He assured that while the legislative arm of government remains independent, the executive would continue to work closely with the Assembly to foster the prosperity of Rivers State.

He particularly thanked the Speaker for his leadership in the screening of caretaker committee chairmen and the rapid passage of executive requests.

The governor also took the opportunity to contrast the Speaker’s proactive engagement with the Assembly with the inaction of 25 former lawmakers, who he described as “Abuja-based politicians. Constituency projects are a reflection of the commitment of elected representatives to their people. I ask, where are the projects from the former 25 members? Are they initiating or inspecting anything? They are nowhere to be found.”

Fubara praised the Speaker for the town hall projects, financial empowerment initiatives for 100 Bonny indigenes, and the award of tertiary scholarships to 30 students from Bonny.

Speaker Oko-Jumbo thanked the people of Bonny for their continued support for the 10th Assembly and reiterated his confidence in the Governor’s leadership.

He assured the people that despite any opposition from former lawmakers or other detractors, the Assembly would remain focused on delivering for the state.

He also highlighted the inclusion of Bonny Local Government in the upcoming 2025 budget, ensuring that the community’s infrastructure needs would be addressed.

“The 2025 budget, to be presented soon by His Excellency, will include critical infrastructure projects for Bonny Local Government,” Oko-Jumbo affirmed.
