Iran Executes Man Convicted Of Spying For Israel

Iran has executed Aghil Keshavarz, a man convicted of spying for Israel, in what authorities described as the latest death sentence linked to espionage following last June’s brief but intense conflict between the two nations.

The judiciary’s press agency, Mizan, announced on Saturday that Keshavarz’s death sentence was carried out after being upheld by the Supreme Court and following legal procedures.

According to Mizan, he was found guilty of collaborating with Israel’s Mossad, photographing military and security sites, and conducting operations on their behalf.

Keshavarz was arrested between April and May in Urmia, a city in northwestern Iran, and authorities said he admitted to his role during interrogations.

The judiciary detailed that his assignments included photographing sensitive locations, planting tracking devices, conducting opinion polls, and analyzing traffic patterns, all under Mossad direction.

The execution follows a 12-day war that began on June 13, 2025, when Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities.

The conflict later escalated when the United States joined Israel in targeting Iranian nuclear sites, before a ceasefire was reached on June 24.

This marked the first open confrontation between the two countries after years of covert operations and sporadic clashes.

Since the ceasefire, Iranian authorities have promised swift trials for individuals accused of collaborating with Israel.

Officials have confirmed multiple arrests and executions of people convicted of working for Mossad.

Iran, which does not recognize Israel, has long accused the country of sabotage, including attacks on its nuclear program and assassinations of Iranian scientists.

In October 2025, Tehran revised its espionage laws, imposing stricter punishments on individuals accused of spying for Israel or the United States, including asset confiscation and the death penalty, measures that were not automatically applied under previous legislation.

Nothing Positive From Fuel Subsidy Removal, Says Former Sports Minister Dalung

Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has criticized the removal of the fuel subsidy, asserting that the policy has failed to deliver relief to Nigerians and has instead worsened poverty, hunger, inflation, and insecurity.

Speaking on Sunrise Daily on Thursday, December 18, 2025, Dalung said the subsidy removal, announced by President Bola Tinubu in May 2023 with the famous declaration that “subsidy is gone,” has not benefited ordinary citizens as promised.

“Granted the subsidy has been removed, but it was done in a way that showed the President did not fully understand the workings of government or the complexities of Nigeria,” Dalung said.

“There was no proper consultation. At that time, there was no functioning government, only the President and Vice President were in office. A decision of this magnitude required input from a cabinet, advisers, and policymakers, but that did not happen.”

“One person decided, and Nigerians were expected to accept it, hoping for good outcomes. Many years later, nothing positive has come of it, only poverty, hunger, inflation, and insecurity.”

Dalung further accused the Tinubu administration of failing to account for the billions of naira generated from subsidy removal, insisting that Nigerians should have seen a higher standard of living.

“Since the entire subsidy was withdrawn, citizens should be living better than people in Dubai, given the enormous revenues that flowed into government coffers,” he said.

He also raised concerns about government borrowing, claiming that since 2023, the Tinubu administration’s debt has already doubled the amount borrowed during President Muhammadu Buhari’s entire eight-year tenure.

Dalung’s remarks come amid growing public criticism over rising living costs and insecurity in the country, as citizens continue to feel the effects of the subsidy removal.

Woman Arrested For Selling Two-Month Old Baby For N1.5m

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a woman for allegedly selling her two-month-old baby for N1.5 million in the state.

The arrest was confirmed on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Bright Edafe, in a statement made available to journalists in Asaba.

Edafe said the suspect, identified as Ughale, had initially reported at the Ekpan Police Division on December 15 that her infant was snatched during a robbery attack while she was travelling in a commercial tricycle.

According to him, the Divisional Police Officer of Ekpan Division, CSP Labe Joseph, immediately mobilised operatives and launched a search-and-rescue operation following the report.

However, during the course of investigation, the police noticed contradictions in the woman’s account, coupled with suspicious behaviour, which led to further interrogation.

Edafe disclosed that the suspect later confessed to fabricating the robbery story and admitted that she had sold her baby to two individuals for N1.5 million.

He added that the suspects involved in the transaction were arrested, while the baby was successfully recovered and is currently safe.

“All suspects are presently in custody as investigations continue, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices connected to the crime for prosecution,” the police spokesperson stated.

Benin Detains Former Defence Minister Over Foiled Coup Attempt

The Republic of Benin has placed former defence minister and opposition figure Candide Azannai in pre-trial detention as part of the ongoing investigation into the country’s failed coup earlier this month.

Azannai, a prominent opposition politician, was arrested last week at his party headquarters in Cotonou following the attempted takeover.

Authorities have accused him of plotting against the state and incitement to rebellion, despite Azannai publicly condemning the coup attempt.

The detention follows the arrest of around 30 individuals, mostly soldiers, who were jailed on treason charges after the foiled coup.

On December 7, soldiers briefly announced on national television that they had ousted President Patrice Talon, but loyalist forces quickly regained control with support from the Nigerian air force.

Several people were killed during the uprising, while some mutineers, including alleged coup leader Lieutenant-Colonel Pascal Tigri, remain at large.

An AFP reporter witnessed Azannai being escorted from Benin’s anti-terrorism court at dawn after several hours of questioning before being taken into custody.

While President Talon has been credited with driving economic growth in Benin, critics accuse him of authoritarian tendencies in a country historically lauded for its democratic governance.

The nation has also faced jihadist attacks in the northern regions in recent years.

Talon is constitutionally required to hand over power in April 2026 after completing his two-term limit.

Police Deploy Special Squads As President Tinubu Visits Borno

Ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Borno State on December 20, 2025, the Borno State Police Command has put in place extensive security measures, deploying tactical teams, surveillance units, and personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit.

In a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the arrangements were designed to ensure the safety of both the President and residents during the visit.

“The Borno State Police Command has deployed adequate security arrangements ahead of the visit of the President to Borno State scheduled for today, 20th December 2025,” the statement read.

ASP Daso explained that the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, had crafted a robust security plan, incorporating conventional police personnel, tactical squads, surveillance teams, crowd control units, and EOD operatives to guarantee a safe and hitch-free visit.

To facilitate the smooth movement of the President’s convoy and other VIPs, temporary vehicular restrictions and diversions will be enforced on select roads in Maiduguri.

The statement specifically noted that routes, including the parallel road from Airport Road to Shehu Road, may experience temporary closures or rerouting.

Reassuring residents, the police emphasized their commitment to protecting lives and property throughout the duration of the presidential visit.

“The Command reassures residents of its commitment to the protection of lives and property before, during, and after the presidential visit, and calls for the continued cooperation, vigilance, and support of the public,” ASP Daso added.

President Tinubu’s Borno visit is part of a three-state tour, which will conclude in Lagos during the year-end holidays.

FIFA Sanctions Malaysia Over Forged Documents For Foreign-Born Players

FIFA has sanctioned Malaysia with three 3-0 forfeits after the country fielded foreign-born players using forged documents claiming Malaysian ancestry, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced on Wednesday.

The forfeits affect friendly matches played at home this year: victories against Palestine and Singapore, and a draw with Cape Verde, which have all been overturned.

Previously, FIFA suspended seven foreign-born players for presenting falsified documents to qualify for the Malaysian national team.

The players involved are Hector Hevel, Jon Irazabal, Gabriel Palmero, Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, and Joao Brandao Figueiredo.

FIFA’s investigation found that none of them had a parent or grandparent born in Malaysia, a mandatory requirement for national team eligibility.

Two of the players had scored in the affected matches.

In addition to match forfeits, Malaysia faces a $12,500 fine on top of the $440,000 penalty previously imposed by FIFA.

A disciplinary committee ruling on Friday confirmed the 3-0 losses.

The scandal first emerged after a complaint was lodged following Malaysia’s 4-0 victory over Vietnam in an Asian Cup qualifier in June.

FAM, however, has denied any wrongdoing and plans to appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Two Councillors, Vice Chairman kidnapped

Boko Haram terrorists have abducted the Vice Chairman and two newly elected councillors of Biu Local Government Area along the Kamuya-Buni/Yadi axis in Borno and Yobe states.

The kidnapped officials, Alhaji Saidu and the councillors representing Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards, were elected in last Saturday’s local government elections.

According to a credible security source in Maiduguri, the abductions occurred on Wednesday evening while the officials were traveling from Biu, the council headquarters, to Maiduguri.

The source added that an unspecified number of other passengers were also abducted from a Hisbah bus along the same route from Potiskum to Biu.

One of the kidnapped councillors previously served as the vice chairman of Biu council.

An anonymous community leader from Miringa appealed to the Borno State government, military, and other security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the captives, believed to be held in the Sambisa Forest.

The Buni/Yadi-Miringa corridor has long been notorious for attacks, kidnappings, and killings by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) over the past seven years.

In a related incident, a suicide bomber targeted a military post near Firgi, close to Pulka in Borno State, on Sunday.

Local sources and security officials reported that at least five soldiers were killed, though the military has confirmed the attack without specifying casualties.

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, military spokesman in the northeast, stated that the soldiers neutralized the attacker before the bombing could fully succeed.

Umar Sa’idu, a member of a local militia who helped transport the victims, described the scene:

“I counted five bodies lying in blood at the back of my house. Medical personnel at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital later confirmed all five had died.”

Militants in northeastern Nigeria have intensified raids on military bases this year, even as suicide bombings, once a signature tactic of Boko Haram, have become less frequent due to military operations against the insurgents.

US Suspends Green Card, Citizenship Processing For Nigerians Amid Expanded Travel Restrictions

The United States government has halted the processing of green card and citizenship applications from Nigerians following Nigeria’s inclusion in an expanded list of countries subject to US immigration restrictions under a directive by President Donald Trump.

According to CBS News, a US official confirmed that the Trump administration instructed the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to suspend the consideration of immigration petitions from nationals of countries newly placed under partial travel restrictions, citing national security concerns and ongoing reviews of vetting procedures.

The new directive follows a presidential proclamation issued earlier this week, which imposed further limitations on nationals of countries identified as having “demonstrated, persistent, and severe deficiencies in screening, vetting, and information-sharing” deficiencies that, according to the White House, pose risks to US national security and public safety.

Nigeria is among 15 countries newly subjected to partial travel restrictions.

While the measure does not amount to a full entry ban, it temporarily suspends the processing of green card and citizenship applications submitted by affected nationals.

President Trump had previously designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” on October 31, citing allegations of widespread violence against Christian communities and broader concerns over governance, security, and cooperation with US authorities.

Under the proclamation, countries under a full travel ban include Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, Syria, Laos, and Sierra Leone.

Nations under partial restrictions now include Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Dominica, Gabon, Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Tonga, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The proclamation builds on earlier restrictions announced in June, which had already limited immigration processing for nationals of several countries.

Notably, Laos and Sierra Leone were upgraded from partial restrictions to full bans, prompting USCIS to extend the suspension of immigration benefits, including permanent residency and naturalisation applications.

Previously affected nations such as Afghanistan, Burundi, Chad, Cuba, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan, Togo, Turkmenistan, Yemen, and Venezuela remain subject to similar measures.

US officials stated that the suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of a comprehensive review of screening and vetting procedures, though no timeline has been given.

The review aims to safeguard the integrity of the US immigration system.

Pastor Okafor Silent As Actress Doris Ogala Alleges Broken Marriage Promise

Lagos-based pastor, Chris Okafor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, has remained tight-lipped amid viral claims by actress Doris Ogala, who alleges that he promised to marry her and several others while ultimately marrying someone else.

Ogala shared what appeared to be a photo of Okafor topless, wrapped in a towel, in a bedroom.

In the now-deleted post, she wrote:

“This is his bedroom. After making love. Full video dropping soon. You said I’m lying; okay. You shared my naked body. Everyone will watch yours. This video is from a girl he promised marriage. She sent it to me.”

The drama erupted following Okafor’s recent wedding to his new bride, identified only as Pearl.

Despite Ogala’s accusations of betrayal, emotional manipulation, and a broken promise of marriage, Okafor proceeded with his ceremony, which reportedly saw attendance limited to family and close friends.

Ogala claimed that their alleged relationship began in 2017 and that she ended her previous marriage at his urging.

She accused Okafor of causing her severe emotional distress when he abruptly ended their relationship without notice.

In videos circulating online, she repeatedly questioned his decision to marry someone else, saying, “No, you will not marry ooo, who are you leaving me for, this marriage will not work.”

In earlier interviews, Ogala said she practically lived in Okafor’s house, and that his family knew of their relationship.

She described their bond as deeply affectionate and claimed it lasted from 2017 to 2019.

In one video, her colleague, Digidi Dunhill, alleged that Ogala had attempted to harm herself.

Ogala’s legal team, Synergy Law, issued a formal demand letter to Okafor seeking N1 billion in damages for breach of promise, emotional distress, and reputational harm.

The letter gave the pastor 21 days to comply before legal proceedings would commence.

Adding to the online drama, a woman identified as Benita Ahane, allegedly the sister of Ogala’s ex-husband, claimed that Ogala’s marriage failed because she preferred career over childbirth.

Ogala dismissed this as impersonation and called for authorities to investigate.

Despite the allegations, Okafor’s wedding to Pearl went ahead in Lekki, Lagos, on December 16.

Videos and photos from the traditional and white wedding ceremonies show the couple celebrating joyfully, exchanging dances, and openly doting on one another.

Pearl described Okafor as her “all in all,” expressing her excitement to build a family together.

Efforts to reach Okafor for comment were unsuccessful.

Calls to two numbers linked to his church went unanswered, and messages sent via WhatsApp were delivered but not replied to at the time of reporting.
