Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a 24-year-old native doctor, Ejike Emmanuel Chinonso, following the discovery of firearms and ammunition in his shrine at Ugwuochie-Iwollo, Ezeagu Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the arrest was carried out by officers attached to the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad on May 15, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m.

During a raid on the suspect’s shrine, police recovered one locally made pistol, a revolver pistol, one expended and one live 38 special calibre ammunition, and one live cartridge.

The discovery followed Chinonso’s confessional statement, in which he admitted to being a member of the Black Axe confraternity.

“The suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations,” the statement read.

Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, praised the operatives for their swift and effective action.

He urged them to sustain their efforts in flushing out criminal elements from the state, reaffirming the Command’s resolve to make Enugu uninhabitable for criminals.

The Commissioner also appealed to residents of the state to continue supporting the police by providing credible information that can aid in crime prevention and enforcement efforts.
