The Bayelsa State Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt for a suspected internet fraudster following the discovery of a young woman’s lifeless body in a hotel in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa, the state capital.
The disturbing incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, and has since stirred anxiety in the local community.
A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the deceased had checked into the hotel with a young man suspected to be a Yahoo boy, a common term for internet fraudsters in Nigeria.
The man allegedly left the premises shortly after they arrived, leaving the girl behind.
“The lifeless body of a young girl was found in a hotel at Igbogene on Saturday leaving the area in confusion,” the source revealed.
“She lodged in the hotel with a suspected Yahoo boy who left immediately after. The hotel manager who found the dead body reported the incident to the police at Igbogene.”
Confirming the development on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Bayelsa State Command, Mr. Musa Muhammad said that investigations are underway and the suspect is currently at large.
“We received the report yesterday (Saturday), though no arrest has been made for now, but an investigation is ongoing,” Muhammad said.
He assured the public that the police are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the suspect.
“We are making serious inquiries to ensure that the culprits are brought to book. Also, an autopsy would be run on the deceased body to ascertain the cause of the death,” the PPRO added.
