Proceedings have resumed in London in the corruption and bribery trial of former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The trial, which is taking place at the Southwark Crown Court, centres on multiple charges bordering on alleged abuse of office during her tenure overseeing Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. Alison-Madueke has pleaded not guilty to all the allegations.

Prosecutors allege that the former minister received substantial cash payments and luxury benefits in exchange for exerting influence over the award of major energy contracts.

They argue that the case highlights broader concerns about governance and accountability within the global energy industry.

Alison-Madueke was sighted at the court on Monday as legal arguments resumed.
