President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be seated close to United States President Donald Trump during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, has disclosed.

Ibrahim made the revelation on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents after a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to him, the Nigerian President will occupy a front-row seat near Trump during the General Debate at the global gathering.

Although he declined to confirm whether the two leaders would hold a bilateral meeting, Ibrahim maintained that Tinubu’s seating arrangement would place him in close proximity to the U.S. President.

“I can tell you clearly that President Tinubu will be sitting very close to Donald Trump in the front row of the United Nations General Assembly. Don’t ask me how that was arranged, but he will be sitting,” he said.

Ibrahim also stated that President Tinubu would use the UN platform to present the achievements of his administration over the past three years and outline his reform agenda before the international community.

He further disclosed that the President intends to strengthen collaboration with the United Nations on border policing across West Africa as part of efforts to combat cross-border crimes and improve regional security.

According to the envoy, Tinubu has directed that West Africa’s border security challenges be presented as a priority issue requiring coordinated support from the United Nations.

He expressed confidence that the UN would back regional initiatives aimed at improving border policing and peacekeeping operations.

Beyond his address to the General Assembly, Ibrahim said Tinubu is also scheduled to participate in several high-level side events focusing on energy, electricity generation, education and healthcare during the UN meeting.
