A devastating road accident has claimed the lives of at least 19 athletes and officials from Kano State, casting a pall over the sporting community.
The victims had recently returned from participating in the National Sports Festival held in Ogun State.
Their journey home ended in tragedy on Saturday morning when their bus overturned after reportedly hitting a pothole.
The fatal crash occurred around 8 am at the Daka Tsalle Bridge, located in the Garun Malam Local Government Area of Kano State.
Authorities have confirmed that the vehicle lost control and flipped after striking the pothole, leading to multiple fatalities.
Emergency responders and local officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
